熊野古道⑦神倉神社

早朝散歩

和歌山県新宮市で一泊後、早朝散歩でゴトビキ岩がある神倉神社まで行ってきました。熊野速玉大社をお参りしたあと、10数分歩いて神社にいたり、上まで続く石段が始まる鳥居をくぐりました。地元の方とおぼしき何名かが、朝の参拝を終えて降りてこられます。

軽い気持ちで登り始めましたが、石段が急角度で連なっていて写真で見るより、石の壁に感じるほど切り立った部分もあります。朝から汗だくになるのは避けたいので、休みながら登りますが、結構な距離がありますし、何度か曲がるので先が長いようにも感じてしまいます。

ゴトビキ岩に到着

ようやく本殿近くに来ましたが、本殿も岩の上にあって、そこの石段を登ります。まず、無事に登れたことを神様に感謝して、お参りをしました。私の他は誰一人おらず、下界に広がる新宮の街と海の景色を独り占めです。

間近でみるゴトビキ岩から威圧感が襲ってきます。転がってきたらいやだなぁと思いながらも、是非、この手で触れてみたいので、ゴトビキ岩が載っている岩の方に移ってみますが、この岩には石段がないので、足を滑らせるとズリ落ちてしまいます。なんとか踏みとどまって両手で岩からパワーをいただきました。

帰りは怖い！

さあ、帰りですが、ここの石段は登るときより下る時の方が、垂直度が増したように感じます。特に下の方では、一歩一歩に気を付けないと転落してしまうぐらい急です。留学生向けの旅程に組み入れたいのですが、ちょっと危険かなと思案しています。（完）

Kumano Kodo (Ancient Road) (7) Kamikura Shrine (English)

Morning walk

After an overnight stay in Shingu City, Wakayama Prefecture, I went for an early morning walk to Kamikura Shrine, where Gotobiki Rock is located. After visiting the Kumano Hayatama Taisha shrine, I walked for more than ten minutes to the shrine and passed through the torii gate where the stone stairs leading to the top began. Several people, who looked like locals, were coming down after their morning prayers.

I started to climb the mountain with a light heart, but the stone steps were so steep that it felt more like a stone wall in some parts than it did in the picture. I didn’t want to get sweaty in the morning, so I took a break and climbed up, but it was quite a distance and I felt like I had a long way to go because of several turns.

Arriving at Gotobiki Rock

I finally came near the main shrine, but the main shrine was also on a rock, and I had to climb the stone steps there. First, I thanked the gods for my safe ascent and paid my respects. There was no one else but me, and I had the view of the city of Shingu and the sea below all to myself.

I felt a sense of intimidation when I saw Gotobiki Rock up close. I wanted to touch it with my hands, even though I didn’t want it to roll over, so I moved towards the rock on which it was placed, but there were no stone steps, so if I slipped, I would have fallen. I managed to hold on and get power from the rock with both hands.

I’m scared to go back!

Now, on the way back, I felt that the stone steps here were more vertical on the way down than on the way up. Especially at the bottom, the steps are so steep that if you are not careful with every step, you could fall down. I’d like to include this shrine in my itinerary for international students, but I’m thinking it might be a bit dangerous.

Marche du matin

Après une nuit passée dans la ville de Shingu, dans la préfecture de Wakayama, je suis allé faire une promenade matinale au sanctuaire de Kamikura, où se trouve le rocher Gotobiki. Après avoir visité le sanctuaire Kumano Hayatama Taisha, j’ai marché pendant plus de dix minutes jusqu’au sanctuaire et j’ai passé la porte torii où commençaient les escaliers en pierre menant au sommet. Plusieurs personnes, qui semblaient être des locaux, descendaient après leurs prières du matin.

J’ai commencé à gravir la montagne le cœur léger, mais les marches en pierre étaient si raides que j’avais l’impression d’être un mur de pierre à certains endroits, plus que sur la photo. Je ne voulais pas être en sueur le matin, alors j’ai fait une pause et j’ai repris l’ascension, mais la distance était assez grande et j’avais l’impression d’avoir un long chemin à parcourir à cause de plusieurs virages.

Arrivée à Gotobiki Rock

Je suis finalement arrivé près du sanctuaire principal, mais celui-ci se trouvait également sur un rocher, et j’ai dû y gravir les marches en pierre. J’ai d’abord remercié les dieux pour la sécurité de mon ascension et j’ai présenté mes respects. Il n’y avait personne d’autre que moi, et j’avais la vue sur la ville de Shingu et la mer en contrebas pour moi tout seul.

J’ai ressenti un sentiment d’intimidation lorsque j’ai vu le rocher Gotobiki de près. Je voulais le toucher avec mes mains, même si je ne voulais pas qu’il se renverse, alors je me suis dirigé vers le rocher sur lequel il était posé, mais il n’y avait pas de marches en pierre, donc si j’avais glissé, je serais tombé. J’ai réussi à m’accrocher et à prendre de la force sur le rocher avec mes deux mains.

J’ai peur d’y retourner !

Sur le chemin du retour, j’ai eu l’impression que les marches en pierre étaient plus verticales à la descente qu’à la montée. Surtout en bas, les marches sont si raides que si vous ne faites pas attention à chaque pas, vous pouvez tomber. J’aimerais inclure ce sanctuaire dans mon itinéraire pour les étudiants internationaux, mais je pense que cela pourrait être un peu dangereux.
