琵琶湖に浮かぶ竹生島

西国三十三所で唯一、船に乗らないとたどり着けないのが琵琶湖に浮かぶ竹生島にある第三十番の竹生島 宝厳寺（真言宗豊山派）。琵琶湖岸の数か所から観光船が出ていますが、大阪からJRの東海道線で一番近い彦根から乗ることにしました。所要時間は40分。

船の待合室では、加藤登紀子が歌う「琵琶湖周航の歌」がエンドレスで流れていて、琵琶湖の旅情感が湧いてきます。小雨の降る中、波も穏やかな中、予定通りに竹生島に到着。登り口のところで拝観料を支払い、石段を登っていきます。

秀吉の大坂城の遺構

最初にお参りしたのは弁財天堂。立派なお堂で、こちらが本堂になります。坂をおりて、観音堂へ行くと、正面には平成31年に屋根の葺き替え、彩色の塗り直しなどの工事が終了した唐門、現存する唯一の大坂城（秀吉築城）の建物、が迎えてくれます。

観音様をお参りした後、船廊下を渡って都久夫須麻神社へ移動。ここからは眼下に琵琶湖を一望できます。隣では、かわらけ投げをしており、湖面に突き出た鳥居をくぐれば願い事が叶うとの言いつたえがあるそうです。

我は湖（うみ）の子、放浪の

70分程度の滞在ですが、駆け足でお参りと景色を楽しむことができました。帰りは雨も上がり、少し明るくなった竹生島に別れを告げながら船が離れていきます。船内でも相変わらず「我は湖（うみ）の子、放浪（さすらい）の・・・」が流れています。（完）

Hougonji Temple (English)

Chikubujima Island in Lake Biwa

The only one of the 33 temples in the western part of Japan that can only be reached by boat is the 30th temple, Chikubujima Hougonji Temple (Buzan School of Shingon Buddhism), located on Chikubujima Island in Lake Biwa. There are sightseeing boats from several places along the shore of Lake Biwa, but I decided to take the boat from Hikone, which is the closest to Osaka by JR Tokaido Line. The journey takes 40 minutes.

In the waiting room of the ship, the song “Lake Biwa Circumnavigation Song” sung by Tokiko Kato was playing endlessly, giving me a feeling of traveling on Lake Biwa. I arrived at Chikubujima island on schedule in a light rain and calm waves. I paid a fee at the entrance to the temple and climbed the stone steps.

Remains of Hideyoshi’s Osaka Castle

The first place I visited was the Benzaiten Hall. It was a magnificent hall, and it was the main hall. As I walked down the slope to the Kannon Hall, I was greeted by the Karamon Gate, the only existing building of Osaka Castle (built by Hideyoshi), whose roofing and repainting work was completed in 2019.

After visiting Kannon, I crossed the ship corridor and moved on to Tsukufusuma Shrine. From here, I could see Lake Biwa below me. Next to the shrine, visitors were throwing kawarake (piece of pottery), and it is said that if you throw kawasaki through the torii gate sticking out of the lake, your wish will come true.

“I am a child of the lake, a wanderer……”

I stayed for about 70 minutes, but I was able to rush around and enjoy the visit and the scenery. On the way back from the island, the rain had stopped and the boat was leaving, saying goodbye to the slightly brighter Chikubujima Island. The song “I am a child of the sea, wandering…” was still playing in the boat. (End)

Temple Hougonji (Français)

Île de Chikubujima dans le lac Biwa

Le seul des 33 temples de la partie occidentale du Japon qui ne peut être atteint que par bateau est le 30e temple, le temple Hougonji de Chikubujima (école Buzan du bouddhisme Shingon), situé sur l’île de Chikubujima dans le lac Biwa. Des bateaux touristiques partent de plusieurs endroits le long des rives du lac Biwa, mais j’ai décidé de prendre le bateau de Hikone, qui est le plus proche d’Osaka par la ligne JR Tokaido. Le trajet dure 40 minutes.

Dans la salle d’attente du bateau, la chanson “Lake Biwa Circumnavigation Song” interprétée par Tokiko Kato jouait en boucle, me donnant l’impression de voyager sur le lac Biwa. Je suis arrivé à l’île de Chikubujima à l’heure prévue sous une pluie légère et des vagues calmes. J’ai payé une taxe à l’entrée du temple et j’ai monté les marches en pierre.

Vestiges du château d’Osaka de Hideyoshi

Le premier endroit que j’ai visité était la salle Benzaiten. C’était une salle magnifique, et c’était la salle principale. En descendant la pente vers le Kannon Hall, j’ai été accueillie par la porte Karamon, le seul bâtiment existant du château d’Osaka (construit par Hideyoshi), dont les travaux de couverture et de repeinture ont été achevés en 2019.

Après avoir visité Kannon, j’ai traversé le couloir des bateaux et me suis rendu au sanctuaire Tsukufusuma. De là, je pouvais voir le lac Biwa en contrebas. À côté du sanctuaire, des visiteurs jetaient des kawarake (morceaux de poterie). On dit que si vous lancez des kawasaki à travers la porte en forme de torii qui sort du lac, votre souhait se réalisera.

“Je suis un enfant du lac, un vagabond……”

Je suis resté environ 70 minutes, mais j’ai pu me précipiter et profiter de la visite et du paysage. Au retour de l’île, la pluie avait cessé et le bateau repartait, disant au revoir à l’île de Chikubujima, un peu plus lumineuse. La chanson “Je suis un enfant de la mer, j’erre…” jouait encore dans le bateau. (Fin)
