永観堂

紅葉の名所

京都には紅葉の名所が数多くあります。有名な場所もあれば、知る人ぞ知るという穴場も存在しています。自分の勉強不足をさらけ出して、恥ずかしいのですが、紅葉の名所である永観堂を知ったのは、京都に通うようになって3年目の秋でした。

南禅寺にはよく行っていたのですが、永観堂を示す標識を時々見た際に、何かなという程度の認識でした。ある日、紅葉の名所を紹介する雑誌を見ると、永観堂が上位にランキングされていて、驚くとともに、次のシーズンは必ず見に行こうと決めました。

金色の鯉と水面の紅葉

平日に年休を取って妻と二人で行ってきました。総門の外からすでに紅葉した木が見えていました。境内に入ると真っ赤になった木が何本も目に入ってきます。夕方近くに行きましたが、コロナ禍の影響でしょうか、長い行列はできていませんでした。建物の中に入って、中庭を回るように、つながった建物の中を歩きました。金色の鯉がいる池に紅葉の葉が浮かんでいるのが、何とも言えない風情を感じさせます。

途中、臥龍廊とよばれる、竜が立ち上るような姿に見えるねじれた階段もありました。階段は通行禁止登ですが、反対側の阿弥陀堂に行くと、ここには有名な「みかえり阿弥陀」が立っておられます。この阿弥陀様は、正面から見るとお顔を見られないので、横まで行って拝むことになります。ちょうど真横を向いておられます。写真は撮れないので、ぜひ、現地で実物をご覧、いや、拝観してください。

境内で存分に楽しめる紅葉

阿弥陀堂を出ると、下りの階段があります。そこからは紅葉を十分に楽しむことができます。緑の苔の絨毯に真っ赤な紅葉の葉が落ちているのも、コントラストが綺麗で、好きな景色の一つです。永観堂に来てよかったです。もし、永観堂に来ていなかったら、京都の紅葉については語れないなと感じました。（完）

Places to see autumn leaves

There are many places to enjoy the autumn leaves in Kyoto. Some of them are famous, while others are unknown to those in the know. I am embarrassed to reveal my lack of study, but it was in the autumn of my third year of commuting to Kyoto that I learned about Eikando temple, a famous place for viewing autumn leaves.

I used to go to Nanzenji Temple often, but I was only aware of what it was when I occasionally saw a sign indicating Eikando temple. One day, when I saw a magazine introducing the best places to see autumn leaves, I was surprised to see Eikando temple ranked high on the list and decided to go see it the next season.

I took an annual leave on a weekday and went there with my wife. From the outside of the main gate, we could already see the trees with red leaves. As we entered the precincts, we saw many trees that had turned bright red. We went there close to the evening, but there was no long line, probably due to the Cover 19 virus. We entered the building and walked through the connected buildings as if we were going around a courtyard. The leaves of autumn leaves floating in a pond with golden carp gave me an indescribable feeling of elegance.

On the way, there was a twisted staircase called “Garyu-ro,” which looked like a dragon rising up. The stairs are closed to traffic, but if you go to the Amida Hall on the other side, you will find the famous “Mikaeri Amida” standing there. You can’t see the face of this Amitabha from the front, so you have to go to the side to see it. It is not possible to take pictures of him, so please go there and see him in person.

Enjoying the autumn leaves in the precincts

After leaving the Amida Hall, there is a staircase leading down. From there, you can fully enjoy the autumn leaves. The contrast of the bright red leaves falling on the carpet of green moss is beautiful and one of my favorite views. I am glad I came to Eikando temple. I felt that if I had not come to Eikando, I would not be able to talk about the autumn leaves in Kyoto. (End)

Endroits où voir les feuilles d’automne

Il existe de nombreux endroits pour admirer les feuilles d’automne à Kyoto. Certains sont célèbres, d’autres sont inconnus des connaisseurs. Je suis gêné de révéler mon manque d’étude, mais c’est à l’automne de ma troisième année de voyage à Kyoto que j’ai appris l’existence du temple Eikando, un endroit célèbre pour admirer les feuilles d’automne.

J’avais l’habitude d’aller souvent au temple Nanzenji, mais je ne savais ce que c’était que lorsque je voyais occasionnellement un panneau indiquant le temple Eikando. Un jour, en voyant un magazine présentant les meilleurs endroits pour voir les feuilles d’automne, j’ai été surpris de voir que le temple Eikando figurait en bonne place sur la liste et j’ai décidé d’aller le voir la saison suivante.

J’ai pris un congé annuel un jour de semaine et j’y suis allé avec ma femme. De l’extérieur de la porte principale, nous pouvions déjà voir les arbres aux feuilles rouges. En entrant dans l’enceinte, nous avons vu de nombreux arbres devenus rouge vif. Nous y sommes allés vers le soir, mais il n’y avait pas de longue file d’attente, probablement en raison du virus Cover 19. Nous sommes entrés dans le bâtiment et avons traversé les bâtiments connectés comme si nous faisions le tour d’une cour. Les feuilles d’automne flottant dans un étang avec des carpes dorées m’ont donné un sentiment indescriptible d’élégance.

Sur le chemin, il y avait un escalier en colimaçon appelé “Garyu-ro”, qui ressemblait à un dragon s’élevant. L’escalier est fermé à la circulation, mais si vous vous rendez dans la salle Amida de l’autre côté, vous y trouverez le célèbre “Mikaeri Amida”. Vous ne pouvez pas voir le visage de cet Amitabha de face, vous devez donc vous rendre sur le côté pour le voir. Il n’est pas possible de prendre des photos de lui, alors allez-y et voyez-le en personne.

Profiter des feuilles d’automne dans les quartiers

Après avoir quitté le Hall Amida, il y a un escalier qui descend. De là, vous pouvez profiter pleinement des feuilles d’automne. Le contraste des feuilles rouge vif tombant sur le tapis de mousse verte est magnifique et constitue l’une de mes vues préférées. Je suis heureuse d’être venue au temple Eikando. J’ai senti que si je n’étais pas venu à Eikando, je ne serais pas capable de parler des feuilles d’automne à Kyoto. (Fin)
