知的生きかた文庫「見たい、知りたい！日本の城」

日本の歴史・文化の新しいテーマを調べる際に、よく活用しているのが「知的生きかた文庫」のシリーズです。今回は、お城について学ぶことにしました。というのも、ある城下町の高校生と留学生の交流イベントを行うことになり、最初の講義でお城についても触れる必要が出てきたためです。

今回も、最後の付章として掲載されている「城の基本がわかる！」から読み始めました。城の種類、天守の構造と構成、御殿と櫓、などなど７つのテーマで基礎知識がまとめられています。最低限の知識は、ここで学びました。

次に、日本全国のいろいろなお城がカラー写真付きで紹介されています。天守閣があるお城だけでなく、石垣のみの城、自然の地形を生かしたものなど、様々です。お城は嫌いではないのですが、いままで、どれを見ても同じようにしか感じていませんでした。調べると一つ一つが個性的なことがわかってきます。

さて、それでは誰かにお城の魅力を伝えるとなるとどうでしょうか。姫路城は世界遺産であること以前に、その美しさをアピールできるでしょうし、大阪城や名古屋城の場合は、コンクリートの再建であっても市街地にあるのでアクセスも良く、スケール感を楽しんでいただけると思います。

でも、伝える者として、何かがまだ足りないように思います。その部分は、現地に足しげく通って見つけるしかないのかなとも思います。今回行った講義では、城を守る場合の工夫のいくつかをクイズ形式で出してみました。答えを聴けば、ああ、そうかで終わる内容ですが、自らを武将になったと思って考えると、興味をもって答えてもらえたと思います。そこに、城を伝える際のヒントがあるのかもしれません。（完）

Intellectual Way of Life Library “I want to see and know! Castles in Japan”

I often use the “Intellectual Living Library” series when researching new topics in Japanese history and culture. This time, I decided to learn about castles because I was going to hold an exchange event between high school students of a castle town and international students, and I needed to touch on castles in my first lecture.

Again, I started reading from the last chapter, “Understanding the Basics of Castles!” which is the last chapter of the book. The book covers basic knowledge on seven themes, including types of castles, the structure and composition of castle towers, palaces and turrets, and so on. This is where I learned the minimum amount of knowledge.

Next, a variety of castles from all over Japan are introduced with color photographs. There are not only castles with castle towers, but also castles with only stone walls, castles that make use of the natural terrain, and many more. I am not averse to castles, but until now, I had always felt that they all looked the same. However, when you look into them, you realize that each one is unique.

Now then, how about telling someone about the appeal of castles? Himeji Castle is not only a World Heritage site, but also a beautiful one. In the case of Osaka Castle and Nagoya Castle, even though they are reconstructed from concrete, they are located in the city center, so they are easily accessible and people can enjoy the sense of scale.

However, as a communicator, I feel that something is still lacking. I think the only way to find out is to go to the site and visit. In this lecture, I gave a quiz on some of the ingenious ways to defend a castle. If you listen to the answers, you will be satisfied with the content, but if you think of yourself as a military commander, I think you will be interested in the answers. There may be a hint in telling the story of the castle. (End)

Bibliothèque du mode de vie intellectuel “Je veux voir et savoir ! Les châteaux au Japon”

J’utilise souvent la série “Bibliothèque vivante intellectuelle” lorsque je recherche de nouveaux sujets sur l’histoire et la culture japonaises. Cette fois, j’ai décidé de me renseigner sur les châteaux parce que j’allais organiser un échange entre des lycéens d’une ville de château et des étudiants étrangers, et que je devais aborder le sujet des châteaux dans ma première conférence.

Une fois encore, j’ai commencé à lire à partir du dernier chapitre, “Comprendre les bases des châteaux !”, qui est le dernier chapitre du livre. Le livre couvre les connaissances de base sur sept thèmes, notamment les types de châteaux, la structure et la composition des tours de châteaux, des palais et des tourelles, etc. C’est là que j’ai acquis le minimum de connaissances.

Ensuite, une variété de châteaux de tout le Japon sont présentés avec des photographies en couleur. Il n’y a pas seulement des châteaux avec des tours, mais aussi des châteaux avec seulement des murs en pierre, des châteaux qui utilisent le terrain naturel, et bien d’autres encore. Je ne suis pas opposé aux châteaux, mais jusqu’à présent, j’avais toujours pensé qu’ils se ressemblaient tous. Cependant, quand on y regarde de plus près, on se rend compte que chacun est unique.

Et si vous parliez à quelqu’un de l’attrait des châteaux ? Le château de Himeji n’est pas seulement un site du patrimoine mondial, il est aussi très beau. Dans le cas des châteaux d’Osaka et de Nagoya, même s’ils ont été reconstruits à partir de béton, ils sont situés dans le centre de la ville, ils sont donc facilement accessibles et les gens peuvent apprécier la sensation d’échelle.

Cependant, en tant que communicateur, j’ai l’impression qu’il manque encore quelque chose. Je pense que la seule façon de le savoir est de se rendre sur place et de visiter le site. Dans cette conférence, j’ai donné un quiz sur certaines des façons ingénieuses de défendre un château. Si vous écoutez les réponses, vous serez satisfait du contenu, mais si vous vous considérez comme un commandant militaire, je pense que vous serez intéressé par les réponses. Il y a peut-être un indice en racontant l’histoire du château. (Fin)
