なつかしの高野山

コロナ禍でなかなか遠出する機会がない中、気晴らしに日帰りで高野山に行くことにしました。ケーブルカーとか風情のある乗り物でのんびり出かけたいところですが、電車では人との接触が多くなるので、車にて行くことにしました。

高野山には何年ぶりでしょうか。大阪の小学校、中学校に通っていたので、学校行事で林間学校や一泊の宿坊体験に行って以来ですから、40年近く月日が経っています。ツーリングのバイクが多い山道をかなりジグザグしながら高野山に到着しました。

御衣寺 寶亀院

車を金剛峯寺近くの駐車場に止めた後、妻と二人、歩いて巡ることにしました。最初に訪れたのが、新西国霊場 第6番札所 御衣寺 寶亀院です。もちろん高野山ですので弘法大師 空海にゆかりのあるお寺です。

空海没後のある日、醍醐天皇の夢枕に立った身なりが、ボロボロだったということで、空海に弘法大師の大師号を贈りました。大師の命日である3月21日に毎年新しい法衣を供養することになってできたのが、このお寺です。ですので、御衣寺という名前がついています。

小さなお堂に響くお経

小さな山門をくぐって境内に入りますと、奥の小さなお堂から何やらお経が聞こえてきました。集まったご近所の方々でしょうか、数名でお経を唱えられておりました。私も十一面観音様にお参りをいたしました。

高野山と言えば、壇上伽藍、金剛峯寺と豪壮な寺院をイメージするのですが、ここは本当にこじんまりとしたお寺です。新西国に選ばれていなければ、立ち寄ることもなかったと思います。その分、信仰の街の静けさが、よく似合う場所でもありました。（完）

Hokiin Temple (Wakayama Prefecture)

Koyasan, a place of nostalgia

While I don’t get a chance to go far due to the Covid 19 virus, I decided to take a day trip to Mt. I would have liked to take a cable car or some other leisurely ride, but since I would have had a lot of contact with people on the train, I decided to go by car.

How many years has it been since I visited Koyasan? It’s been almost 40 years since I went to elementary school and junior high school in Osaka, where I went to a summer camp in the forest and an overnight lodging experience as part of school events. We arrived at Koya-san, zigzagging quite a bit on the mountain roads full of touring motorcycles.

Hokiin Temple, Baoguin Temple

After parking the car at a parking lot near Kongobuji Temple, my wife and I decided to walk around. The first place we visited was the sixth temple of the New 33 Western Sacred Sites, Okoromodera Temple, Houkiin. Of course, this is Koyasan, so the temple is associated with the monk, Kobo-Daishi Kukai.

One day after Kukai’s death, Emperor Daigo presented Kukai with the title of Kobo-Daishi (Great Teacher) because of his tattered appearance when he stood on the pillow of his dreams. He decided to offer a new robe every year on March 21, the anniversary of the Great Master’s death, and this temple was established. This is why the temple is called Okoromo (robe in Japanese) Temple.

As I entered the temple grounds through the small gate, I heard some chanting coming from a small hall in the back. I guessed it was the neighbors who had gathered there, and several of them were chanting. I also paid my respects to the eleven-faced Kannon.

When I think of Koyasan, I imagine Danjo Garan, Kongobuji and other grand temples, but this is a really small temple. If it hadn’t been selected as one of the 33 New Western Sacred Sites, I don’t think I would have stopped by. For that reason, the tranquility of the city of faith suited the place well. (End)

Koyasan, un lieu de nostalgie

Bien que je n’aie pas l’occasion d’aller loin à cause du virus Covid 19, j’ai décidé de faire une excursion d’une journée à Mt. J’aurais aimé prendre un téléphérique ou un autre moyen de transport tranquille, mais comme j’aurais eu beaucoup de contacts avec les gens dans le train, j’ai décidé d’y aller en voiture.

Combien d’années se sont écoulées depuis ma dernière visite à Koyasan ? Cela fait presque 40 ans que je suis allé à l’école primaire et au collège à Osaka, où j’ai participé à un camp d’été dans la forêt et à une expérience d’hébergement de nuit dans le cadre d’événements scolaires. Nous sommes arrivés à Koya-san, en zigzaguant un peu sur les routes de montagne pleines de motos de tourisme.

Après avoir garé la voiture sur un parking près du temple Kongobuji, ma femme et moi avons décidé de nous promener. Le premier endroit que nous avons visité était le sixième temple des 33 nouveaux sites sacrés occidentaux, le temple Okoromodera, à Houkiin. Bien sûr, c’est Koyasan, donc le temple est associé au moine Kobo-Daishi Kukai.

Un jour après la mort de Kukai, l’empereur Daigo lui a donné le titre de Kobo-Daishi (Grand Maître) en raison de son apparence en lambeaux lorsqu’il se tenait sur l’oreiller de ses rêves. Il décida d’offrir une nouvelle robe chaque année le 21 mars, date anniversaire de la mort du Grand Maître, et ce temple fut créé. C’est pourquoi le temple est appelé temple Okoromo (robe en japonais).

Sutra résonnant dans une petite salle

En entrant dans le temple par la petite porte, j’ai entendu des chants provenant d’une petite salle à l’arrière. J’ai deviné que c’étaient les voisins qui s’étaient rassemblés là, et plusieurs d’entre eux chantaient. J’ai également présenté mes respects à la Kannon à onze visages.

Quand je pense à Koyasan, j’imagine Danjo Garan, Kongobuji et d’autres grands temples, mais celui-ci est vraiment petit. S’il n’avait pas été sélectionné comme l’un des 33 nouveaux sites sacrés occidentaux, je ne pense pas que je m’y serais arrêté. Pour cette raison, la tranquillité de la ville de la foi convenait bien à l’endroit. (Fin)
