どっちの門から入りますか。平等院鳳凰堂を訪問する際、バスを駐車場に停めると安土桃山時代に建てられた旧南門からの入場になります。それはそれでいいのですが、出来れば参道を歩いて、宇治茶のお店にも立ち寄りたいものです。
我々は普段、午前に神戸で研修生に講義をした後、バスで移動してくるので、バス停には行かず、参道が始まる場所の近くにあるファミリーレストランでランチを食べてから、参道を歩きます。
宇治はお茶どころですから、お茶の老舗が並んでいます。いろいろな理由があって、同じ屋号のお店が複数並んでいます。私も時々、茶団子を1本買って食後のデザートとして食べたりします。修学旅行生と思しき学生さんもお土産を買ったり、店内で抹茶味のデザートを食べたりしています。
ここで、宇治川に寄らないのももったいない話です。風光明媚な場所として平安時代から宇治には貴族の別荘が建てられていました。宇治川は護岸が整備されていて、景色がいいので訪日研修生たちにも喜んでいただけます。時間がない場合が多いのですが、一度、対岸のお茶屋（福寿園）で、石臼を引いて抹茶をつくる作業を体験してもらったことがあります。
その時は、東京の大学で学ぶ留学生をお連れしました。皆さん日本に滞在しているので、お茶を飲む経験をした方はいましたが、さすがに抹茶を石臼で引く体験は初めてのようで、15分程度、一心不乱に石臼を回していました。平等院の周りにも、たくさん楽しめる場所がありますので、是非、駐車場から平等院に行って帰るだけでなく、宇治滞在を楽しんでください。（完）

Byodoin Phoenix Hall (1) (Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture)
Which gate should you enter from? When visiting the Byodoin Phoenix Hall, if you park the bus at the parking lot, you will enter through the old South Gate, built in the Azuchi-Momoyama period. That’s fine, but if possible, we would like to walk along the approach and stop at a Uji tea store.
We usually take the bus after giving a lecture to the trainees in Kobe in the morning, so we don’t go to the bus stop, but have lunch at a family restaurant near where the approach starts, and then walk along the path.
Uji is known for its tea, so there are many old tea shops lining the path. For various reasons, there are many stores with the same name. I sometimes buy one tea dumpling and eat it as an after-dinner dessert. Students who seem to be on a school trip also buy souvenirs and eat matcha-flavored desserts inside the store.
It would be a shame not to stop at the Ujigawa River. As a place of scenic beauty, Uji has been home to aristocratic villas since the Heian period. The Uji River has a well-developed seawall, and the scenic beauty makes it a delight for visiting trainees. Often there is not enough time, but once I had them experience the process of making green tea by using a millstone at a teahouse (Fukujuen) on the other side of the river.
At that time, I brought international students studying at the University of Tokyo. They had been in Japan for a while, so some of them had experienced drinking tea, but this was the first time for them to try making Matcha using a millstone. There are many places to enjoy around Byodoin, so please enjoy your stay in Uji, not just going to Byodoin from the parking lot and coming back.(End)

Par quelle porte devez-vous entrer ? Lorsque vous visitez le Hall du phénix Byodoin, si vous garez le bus sur le parking, vous entrerez par l’ancienne porte sud, construite à l’époque Azuchi-Momoyama. C’est très bien, mais si possible, nous aimerions marcher le long de l’approche et nous arrêter dans un magasin de thé d’Uji.
Nous prenons généralement le bus après avoir donné une conférence aux stagiaires à Kobe le matin, donc nous n’allons pas à l’arrêt de bus, mais nous déjeunons dans un restaurant familial près de l’endroit où commence l’approche, puis nous marchons le long du chemin.
Uji est connu pour son thé, il y a donc beaucoup de vieux magasins de thé le long du chemin. Pour diverses raisons, il existe de nombreux magasins portant le même nom. Il m’arrive d’acheter une boulette de thé et de la manger en guise de dessert après le repas. Des étudiants qui semblent être en voyage scolaire achètent également des souvenirs et mangent des desserts au matcha à l’intérieur du magasin.
Il serait dommage de ne pas s’arrêter à la rivière Ujigawa. Lieu de beauté scénique, Uji abrite des villas aristocratiques depuis la période Heian. La rivière Uji est dotée d’une digue bien développée, et la beauté du paysage en fait un plaisir pour les stagiaires en visite. Souvent, le temps manque, mais une fois, je leur ai fait découvrir le processus de fabrication du thé vert à l’aide d’une meule dans une maison de thé (Fukujuen) de l’autre côté de la rivière.
À cette époque, j’avais amené des étudiants étrangers qui étudiaient à l’université de Tokyo. Ils étaient au Japon depuis un certain temps, et certains d’entre eux avaient déjà bu du thé, mais c’était la première fois qu’ils essayaient de faire du Matcha avec une meule. Il y a de nombreux endroits à visiter autour de Byodoin, alors profitez de votre séjour à Uji, et ne vous contentez pas d’aller à Byodoin depuis le parking et de revenir. (Fin)
