大手ゼネコンを起業した熱い創業者
関西の起業家を留学生に紹介する機会がありますが、その中の1人に大手ゼネコンの大林組を創業された大林芳五郎さんがいます。熱い思いで事業を立ち上げらたエピソードが多々あり、現代の学生さんにも熱心に聞いていただいています。
本社ビルにオープンした歴史館
大阪の北浜の近くに、土佐堀川に面した大正モダンなビルが建っています。それが大林組の旧本社ビルで、現在は階下にレストランが入り、3階が大林組歴史館としてオープンしています。パネル展示が大部分ですが、時代順に同社が手掛けてきた建築物の写真とともに、同社の歴史が説明されています
創業後に手掛けた大きな工事として、大阪市築港工事で、水深の浅かった大阪港に大型船が接岸できるようにしました。この工事は、当時の大阪市の年間予算の20年分に相当した大プロジェクトだったそうです。また、100年以上前に大阪で行われた第5回内国勧業博覧会では、45ｍの望遠楼「大林高塔」を建設して施設参加し、日本で初めて目のあたりにするエレベータが大人気となって長蛇の列ができたそうです。
男気のある創業者の行動
大阪と奈良を鉄道で結ぶため、間にある生駒山麓にトンネルを掘る工事では、落盤事故で20名の犠牲者を出し、この事故による信用不安が、鉄道会社、貸付銀行と大林組の三社の存亡の危機を招来しましたが、大林芳五郎が「大林ある以上、如何なることがあっても貫徹する。」 と断言し、苦心の末にトンネルを貫通し、鉄道の営業を開始したという、同氏の男気を示すエピソードがあります。
また、市民からの寄付を募って大阪城を再建した際に、地元の建設会社として大赤字で工事を引き受け、完成させています。日本で最も訪問客が多いお城の一つとして、数多くの訪日観光客を集めている大阪城も、同氏の男気があってこそ完成し、現代にいたっていることを知りました。大阪でインバウンド事業に携わる者として、感謝しかありません。大林組は、現在の熊本城の修復でも大いに貢献されています。（完）

Obayashi Gumi History Museum (Osaka)
Founder of a major general contractor with a passion for entrepreneurship
I have the opportunity to introduce Kansai entrepreneurs to international students, and one of them is Mr. Yoshigoro Obayashi, who founded the Obayashi Corporation, a major general contractor. There are many episodes of how he launched his business with passion, and today’s students listen to these episodes enthusiastically.
History museum opened in the headquarters building
Near Kitahama, Osaka, stands a modern Taisho building facing the Tosabori River. It is the former headquarters building of Obayashi Corporation, which now houses a restaurant downstairs and the third floor is open as the Obayashi History Museum. Most of the exhibits are panels, but the history of the company is explained with photos of the buildings the company has worked on in chronological order.
One of the major construction projects that we undertook after the founding of the company was the Osaka City Port Construction Project, which enabled large ships to berth in the shallow water of Osaka Port. This was a major project that was equivalent to 20 years of the annual budget of Osaka City at the time. In addition, the company participated in the 5th National Industrial Exhibition held in Osaka more than 100 years ago by constructing the 45-meter tall Tower, a telescopic tower, and the elevator, which was the first of its kind in Japan, became very popular and drew long lines of visitors.
Manly founder’s actions
During the construction of a tunnel at the foot of Mt. Ikoma to connect Osaka and Nara by rail, 20 people were killed in a cave-in accident. The credit crisis caused by this accident threatened the very existence of the railroad company, the lending bank, and the Obayashi Corporation. Obayashi Yogoro said, “As long as there is an Obayashi, I will carry it through no matter what.” After much effort, the tunnel was penetrated and the railroad began operating.
When Osaka Castle was rebuilt with donations from citizens, the local construction company took on the work at a huge loss and completed it. Osaka Castle, which is one of the most visited castles in Japan and attracts many visitors to Japan, was completed thanks to his manly efforts, and is still in use today. As a person involved in the inbound business in Osaka, I can only express my gratitude. Obayashi Corporation is also contributing greatly to the current restoration of Kumamoto Castle. (End)

J’ai l’occasion de présenter des entrepreneurs du Kansai aux étudiants étrangers, et l’un d’entre eux est M. Yoshigoro Obayashi, qui a fondé la Obayashi Corporation, un important entrepreneur général. De nombreux épisodes racontent comment il a lancé son entreprise avec passion, et les étudiants d’aujourd’hui écoutent ces épisodes avec enthousiasme.
Ouverture d’un musée d’histoire dans le bâtiment du siège
Près de Kitahama, à Osaka, se dresse un bâtiment moderne de style Taisho, face à la rivière Tosabori. Il s’agit de l’ancien siège social d’Obayashi Corporation, qui abrite aujourd’hui un restaurant au rez-de-chaussée et le troisième étage est ouvert en tant que musée d’histoire d’Obayashi. L’un des principaux projets de construction que nous avons entrepris après la création de l’entreprise était le projet de construction du port de la ville d’Osaka, qui permettait aux grands navires d’accoster dans les eaux peu profondes du port d’Osaka. Il s’agissait d’un projet majeur qui équivalait à 20 ans du budget annuel de la ville d’Osaka à l’époque. En outre, l’entreprise a participé à la 5e exposition industrielle nationale qui s’est tenue à Osaka il y a plus de 100 ans en construisant la Tour de 45 mètres de haut, une tour télescopique, et l’ascenseur, qui était le premier du genre au Japon, est devenu très populaire et attirait de longues files de visiteurs.

Pendant la construction d’un tunnel au pied du mont Ikoma pour relier Osaka et Nara par voie ferrée, 20 personnes ont été tuées dans un accident d’effondrement. La crise du crédit provoquée par cet accident a menacé l’existence même de la compagnie de chemin de fer, de la banque prêteuse et de l’Obayashi Corporation. Obayashi Yogoro a dit : “Tant qu’il y aura un Obayashi, je le mènerai à bien quoi qu’il arrive.” Après beaucoup d’efforts, le tunnel a été percé et le chemin de fer a commencé à fonctionner.
Lorsque le château d’Osaka a été reconstruit grâce aux dons des citoyens, l’entreprise de construction locale a pris en charge les travaux à grands frais et les a achevés. Le château d’Osaka, qui est l’un des châteaux les plus visités du Japon et qui attire de nombreux visiteurs au Japon, a été achevé grâce à ses efforts virils et est toujours utilisé aujourd’hui. En tant que personne impliquée dans les affaires entrantes à Osaka, je ne peux qu’exprimer ma gratitude.
