次は西塔へ

横川からシャトルバスに乗り、次は西塔に向かいます。途中、峰道バス停で伝教大師尊像を車窓から見ることができました。この西塔に来るのも初めてです。釈迦堂で御朱印をいただく程度の予備知識しかなかったのですが、いろいろなものに出会うことができました。

親鸞聖人の修行の地

バス停からは徒歩で坂道をくだっていきます。途中、左手方向に親鸞聖人修行の地の碑が立っていました。自分の宗派（浄土真宗）については、普段あまり考えることもないのですが、折角なのでそのあたりを歩いてみました。親鸞さんと同じ場所に、時間を越えて立っていると思うと、何となく心強くなりました。

そこから少し上ったところに、常行堂と法華堂が連結して建っています。現在、修行中で静かにするようにとの掲示があります。3カ月間、堂の中にこもる修行が、つい先日始まったとのことで、これから2カ月以上、堂内でお経を唱えながら、修行を続けられるそうです。私も音をたてないようにして、通り過ぎました。

釈迦堂で説教を聞く

そこから石段を下ると、釈迦堂が正面に建っています。中では、お坊さんが参観者を集めて説教をされています。伝教大師 最澄についてのお話でした。私も15分程度聞いていましたが、終わりそうにないので、先に失礼いたしました。

シャトルバスのタイミングが合わないので、歩いて東塔に向かうことにしました。途中、最澄の御廟である浄土院に立ち寄ることができました。最初は、何の建物か知らず、門から中に入ると、白砂の庭が、すごく静かな雰囲気を出しています。御廟を守る僧侶の方が、今も霊前の給仕に明け暮れているそうです。12年間続くと聞いて、凄く感銘を受けました。（つづく）

Enryakuji Temple (2) West Pagoda Area

Next, go to the West Pagoda Area

From Yokawa, I took the shuttle bus to the West Pagoda next. On the way, I was able to see the statue of Dengyo Daishi from the bus window at the Minedo bus stop. This was my first visit to the West Pagoda area. I had only enough prior knowledge of the temple to get a red seal at Shakado, but I was able to encounter many things.

Shinran Shonin’s training place

From the bus stop, I walked down the slope. On the way, there was a monument to the left of the place where Shinran Shonin practiced Buddhism. I usually don’t think much about my denomination (Jodo Shinshu), but since it was a good opportunity, I walked around the area. It was somewhat reassuring to think that I was standing in the same place as Shinran, beyond time.

A little further up the road, the Jogyodo and Hokke-do are connected to each other. There is a sign asking visitors to be quiet during the practice, and I was told that the three-month retreat inside the hall had just begun, and that he will continue his practice for the next two months or more, chanting sutras inside the hall. I also walked past, trying not to make a sound.

Listen to a sermon at Shakyamuni Hall

From there, stone steps lead down to the Shakado Hall, which stands in front of the temple. Inside, a monk was giving a sermon to the visitors. It was a talk about the great Buddhist priest Saicho. I listened for about 15 minutes, but it did not seem to end, so I left first.

Since the shuttle bus did not have a good timing, I decided to walk to the East Pagoda Area. On the way, I stopped at Jodoin, the mausoleum of Saicho. At first, I did not know what kind of building it was, but when I entered through the gate, the white sand garden created a very quiet atmosphere. I was very impressed to hear that the temple has been in operation for 12 years. (To be continued)

Temple Enryakuji (2) Zone de la pagode ouest

Ensuite, allez dans la zone de la pagode ouest.

De Yokawa, j’ai pris la navette pour me rendre ensuite à la pagode ouest. En chemin, j’ai pu voir la statue de Dengyo Daishi depuis la fenêtre du bus à l’arrêt Minedo. C’était ma première visite dans le quartier de la Pagode Ouest. J’avais juste assez de connaissances préalables sur le temple pour obtenir un sceau rouge à Shakado, mais j’ai pu rencontrer beaucoup de choses.

Le lieu d’entraînement de Shinran Shonin

De l’arrêt de bus, j’ai descendu la pente. En chemin, il y avait un monument à gauche de l’endroit où Shinran Shonin pratiquait le bouddhisme. D’habitude, je ne pense pas beaucoup à ma dénomination (Jodo Shinshu), mais comme c’était une bonne occasion, j’ai fait le tour de la zone. C’était quelque peu rassurant de penser que je me trouvais au même endroit que Shinran, au-delà du temps.

Un peu plus loin sur la route, le Jogyodo et le Hokke-do sont reliés l’un à l’autre. Il y a un panneau demandant aux visiteurs de ne pas faire de bruit pendant la pratique, et on m’a dit que la retraite de trois mois à l’intérieur de la salle venait de commencer, et qu’il continuerait sa pratique pendant les deux prochains mois ou plus, en chantant des sutras à l’intérieur de la salle. Je suis également passé devant, en essayant de ne pas faire de bruit.

Écouter un sermon à la salle Shakyamuni

De là, des marches en pierre descendent vers la salle Shakado, qui se trouve devant le temple. À l’intérieur, un moine fait un sermon aux visiteurs. C’était un discours sur le grand prêtre bouddhiste Saicho. J’ai écouté pendant environ 15 minutes, mais cela ne semblait pas se terminer, alors je suis parti le premier.

Comme la navette n’avait pas un bon horaire, j’ai décidé de marcher jusqu’au quartier des pagodes orientales. En chemin, je me suis arrêté à Jodoin, le mausolée de Saicho. Au début, je ne savais pas de quel genre de bâtiment il s’agissait, mais lorsque j’ai franchi la porte, le jardin de sable blanc a créé une atmosphère très calme. J’ai été très impressionné d’apprendre que le temple est en activité depuis 12 ans. (A suivre)
