庭園のある邸宅が建ち並ぶ界隈

京都の岡崎・南禅寺界隈は非公開を含め庭園を持つ邸宅が建ち並ぶエリアです。大手企業の迎賓館的な役割を果たす館が建ちならんで居ますが、表札に企業名は出ていなので、どこの企業の所有かわかりにくいです。このエリアは1890年の琵琶湖疎水の開通により、その水を活用した庭園が生まれて来ました。無鄰菴もその１つです。

この地域における別荘群の先駆けとして、明治の元勲、山縣有朋の別邸として七代目小川治兵衛が作庭しました。訪問した時は、海外からの研修生に京都を案内するプログラムの一環で、スケジュールが遅れたため、陽が落ちる直前でした。

豊富な水の流れが楽しめる庭

疎水から引いてきた水は庭園の奥から数段の滝上に流れ出してきて、庭園内を縦横に走る流れとなっています。途中、人が通るための飛び石もあり、庭園を回遊することができます。また、水の流れに変化が付くように川底に石がいくつも埋め込まれているのが見えます。

無鄰菴は、山縣有朋がさまざまな試みをした庭園で、山縣が出す要望を小川治兵衛が実現していたと言われています。山縣は自然風の庭園を望んだため、苔の代わりに芝生を張るという指示を出していました。今も庭園の中心である、「田園の風景」エリアは芝生で覆われています。次に「路地の風景」の方に入っていくと、苔の地面が現れます。

東山を主山として構成

山縣は、庭園の前方に聳える東山を主山として、庭が構成されるように、石の配置、樹木の植え方等を割出しています。庭園奥から流れてくる川の水も、あたかも東山の山水が集まって流れて来ているように作られています。是非、ご一覧ください。（完）

Murinan

A neighborhood of mansions with gardens

The Okazaki and Nanzenji neighborhoods in Kyoto are lined with mansions with gardens, including some that are not open to the public. There are also guest houses of major corporations, but it is difficult to tell which company owns which house because the name of the company does not appear on the nameplate. In this area, since the opening of the Lake Biwa Canal in 1890, gardens utilizing the water have been created. Murinan is one of them.

As a pioneer of villa complexes in the area, the garden was created by Jihei Ogawa VII as the villa of Aritomo Yamagata, the former leader of the Meiji Era (1868-1912). When I visited, it was just before the sun went down because I was behind schedule as part of a program to show trainees from overseas around Kyoto.

A garden with an abundance of flowing water

The water drawn from the hydrophobic waterway flows out from the back of the garden over several levels of waterfalls, forming a stream that runs in all directions through the garden. There are steppingstones along the way for people to pass through, allowing them to walk around the garden. You can also see a number of stones embedded in the riverbed to add variety to the flow of the water.

Murinan is a garden where Aritomo Yamagata made various attempts, and it is said that Jihei Ogawa implemented the requests Yamagata made. Because Yamagata wanted a naturalistic garden, he instructed Ogawa Jihei to put grass instead of moss in the garden. Even today, the center of the garden, the “Rural Landscape” area, is covered with grass. Next, as you enter the “Alley Scenery” area, you will see moss ground.

Composed of Higashiyama as the main mountain

Yamagata has arranged the stones and planted trees in such a way that the garden is composed with Higashiyama (Mt. Higashi), which rises in the front of the garden, as the main mountain. The water from the river flowing from the back of the garden is designed to look as if it is coming from the Higashiyama mountains. Please take a look. (End)

Un quartier de maisons de maître avec jardins

Les quartiers d’Okazaki et de Nanzenji à Kyoto sont bordés de manoirs avec jardins, dont certains ne sont pas ouverts au public. On y trouve également des maisons d’hôtes de grandes entreprises, mais il est difficile de savoir quelle entreprise possède quelle maison car le nom de l’entreprise n’apparaît pas sur la plaque signalétique. Dans cette région, depuis l’ouverture du canal du lac Biwa en 1890, des jardins utilisant l’eau ont été créés. Murinan est l’un d’entre eux.

Pionnier des complexes de villas dans la région, le jardin a été créé par Jihei Ogawa VII comme la villa d’Aritomo Yamagata, l’ancien dirigeant de l’ère Meiji (1868-1912). Lorsque je l’ai visité, c’était juste avant le coucher du soleil, car j’avais pris du retard dans le cadre d’un programme visant à faire découvrir Kyoto à des stagiaires étrangers.

Un jardin où l’eau coule en abondance.

L’eau tirée de la voie d’eau hydrophobe s’écoule depuis l’arrière du jardin sur plusieurs niveaux de cascades, formant un ruisseau qui traverse le jardin dans toutes les directions. Le long de ce cours d’eau, il y a des tremplins que les gens doivent franchir, ce qui leur permet de se promener dans le jardin. Vous pouvez également voir un certain nombre de pierres encastrées dans le lit de la rivière pour ajouter de la variété au flux de l’eau.

Murinan est un jardin où Aritomo Yamagata a fait plusieurs tentatives, et on dit que Jihei Ogawa a mis en œuvre les demandes de Yamagata. Comme Yamagata voulait un jardin naturaliste, il a demandé à Jihei Ogawa de remplacer la mousse par de l’herbe. Aujourd’hui encore, le centre du jardin, la zone “Paysage rural”, est recouvert d’herbe. Ensuite, en entrant dans la zone “Paysage d’allée”, vous verrez de la mousse au sol.

Composé de Higashiyama comme montagne principale

Yamagata a disposé les pierres et planté les arbres de manière à ce que le jardin soit composé avec Higashiyama (Mt. Higashi), qui s’élève à l’avant du jardin, comme montagne principale. L’eau de la rivière qui coule à l’arrière du jardin est conçue pour donner l’impression qu’elle provient des montagnes Higashiyama. Jetez-y un coup d’œil. (Fin)
