いつか入って見たかった！
南禅寺には、よく水路閣見学に研修生をお連れすることがあります。当然、三門に登り、京都市中を見てもらいますが、秋になると、いつも眼下の天授庵の紅葉に目を引かれました。普段は時間がく、中に入っていなかったのですが、ある日、水路閣の案内を同僚に任せ、見学することにしました。
東庭と南庭
天授庵には東庭（本堂前庭）と書院の南庭があります。まずは敷石に沿って、枯山水庭園の東庭に入ります。敷石は禅寺らしく、正方形を45度傾けた、龍の背ビレを模したデザインです。訪れたのは紅葉の季節ではないのですが、緑だけでも落ち着いた雰囲気があります。
池の上を渡る
ここから、南庭に進みます。小さな門に続く飛び石も、形や長さに工夫があり、歩いていて楽しいです。すぐに最初の池に突き当たりますが、ここの庭では池の上をあるいて渡るようです。１つめは、3つの木の橋をずらした配置にしてあります。まさか、池に落ちる人はいないと思いますが、慎重にわたります。
次は、大きな池で、蓮の葉が沢山水に浮かんでいます。ここからは、池の向こうに書院が見えます。水の上の歩くために飛び石が並べられています。石だけだと、渡るのがちょっと不安になりますが、親切に手すりが付いています。気持ちを楽にして歩くことができました。
次は、紅葉を見に来よう！
一通り、庭を巡って寺門の前まで戻りました。そこから正面の建物を見ると、部屋の奥に先ほど歩いた南庭が見ています。室内の暗さが額縁効果を生み出して、南庭が、先ほどとは全く違くように見えます。次は、やはり紅葉の季節に訪れたいと思いました。（完）

Tenjuan Temple (Kyoto)
Wish I could have gone in there someday!
I often take trainees to Nanzenji Temple for a tour of Waterway Pavilion. Naturally, I take them up to the Sanmon gate to see the whole city of Kyoto, but in the fall, I am always drawn to the autumn colors of Tenjuan Temple below. Usually, I did not go inside due to time constraints, but one day, I left my colleague in charge of guiding the tour of Waterway Pavilion and decided to take a look.
East and South Gardens
Tenju-an has an east garden (the garden in front of the main hall) and a south garden in front of the shoin building. First, follow the paving stones into the east garden, which is a karesansui (dry landscape garden). The paving stones are designed to resemble the dorsal fin of a dragon, with a square shape tilted at a 45-degree angle, as is typical of Zen temples. Although it was not the season of autumn leaves when I visited, the greenery alone creates a serene atmosphere.
Crossing over the pond
From here, proceed to the south garden. The stepping stones leading to the small gate are also fun to walk on, with their shapes and lengths. The first is a staggered arrangement of three wooden bridges. I didn’t think anyone would fall into the pond, but I crossed it carefully.
Next was a large pond with lotus leaves floating in the water. From here, the Shoin could be seen across the pond. Stepping stones were laid out for walking on the water. The stones alone made me feel a little uneasy to cross, but there was a handrail to help me. I was able to walk with ease.
Next time, I’ll come back for the fall foliage!
After a circuit of the garden, I returned to the front of the temple gate. From there, looking at the building in front of me, I saw the south garden I just walked through at the back of the room. The darkness of the room created a framing effect, making the south garden look completely different from the one I had just seen. Next time, I would like to visit during the season of autumn leaves. Temple Tenjuan (Kyoto)
J’aurais aimé pouvoir y aller un jour !
J’emmène souvent les stagiaires au temple Nanzenji pour une visite du pavillon de la voie d’eau. Naturellement, je les emmène jusqu’à la porte Sanmon pour voir toute la ville de Kyoto, mais en automne, je suis toujours attirée par les couleurs d’automne du temple Tenjuan en contrebas. Habituellement, je n’allais pas à l’intérieur par manque de temps, mais un jour, j’ai laissé mon collègue chargé de guider la visite du Waterway Pavilion et j’ai décidé d’y jeter un coup d’œil.
Jardins Est et Sud
Tenju-an a un jardin est (le jardin devant le hall principal) et un jardin sud devant le bâtiment shoin. Tout d’abord, suivez les pavés dans le jardin est, qui est un karesansui (jardin paysager sec). Les pavés sont conçus pour ressembler à la nageoire dorsale d’un dragon, avec une forme carrée inclinée à un angle de 45 degrés, comme cela est typique des temples zen. Bien que ce ne soit pas la saison des feuilles d’automne lors de ma visite, la verdure à elle seule crée une atmosphère sereine.
Traversée de l’étang
De là, dirigez-vous vers le jardin sud. Les tremplins qui mènent à la petite porte sont également amusants à parcourir, avec leurs formes et leurs longueurs. Le premier est un arrangement échelonné de trois ponts en bois. Je ne pensais pas que quelqu’un tomberait dans l’étang, mais je l’ai traversé avec précaution.
Ensuite, il y avait un grand étang avec des feuilles de lotus flottant dans l’eau. De là, on pouvait voir le Shoin de l’autre côté de l’étang. Des tremplins étaient disposés pour marcher sur l’eau. Rien que les pierres me mettaient un peu mal à l’aise pour traverser, mais il y avait une rampe pour m’aider. J’ai pu marcher avec aisance.
La prochaine fois, je reviendrai pour le feuillage d’automne !
Après un circuit du jardin, je suis revenu devant la porte du temple. De là, en regardant le bâtiment devant moi, j’ai vu le jardin sud que je venais de traverser au fond de la pièce. L’obscurité de la pièce créait un effet de cadrage, rendant le jardin sud complètement différent de celui que je venais de voir. La prochaine fois, j’aimerais le visiter pendant la saison des feuilles d’automne. (Fin)
