生源寺（滋賀県坂本）

当初、訪問する予定は無かったのですが、このお寺の前を通ると「伝教大師生誕の寺」という文字が目に入りました。最長がここで生まれたのかと思い、門から境内を覗くと、すごく普通の本堂が１つ建っているだけです。何か珍しいものでもないかなと思い、境内に入って行きました。

お寺からいただいたリーフレットを読むと、最澄はこのお寺で生まれたのでなく、最長が生まれたこの場所に、後にお寺が建てられ、それが生源寺と名付けられたそうです。せっかくなので本堂に入り、ご本尊の十一面観世音菩薩をお参りしてきました。

住職さんに御朱印を書いていただいている間に、最澄が生湯を浸かった場所がどこか尋ねると、境内の隅にある井戸らしき場所を指して、あそこで産湯の水を汲まれたと伝えられているとのことでした。1200年も前のことですから、どこまで本当かは誰にもわかりませんが、お寺には、ここが最澄の生まれた場所であると伝わっているそうです。

このお寺は最澄によって開かれたとも伝えられていて、比叡山延暦寺の中でも特別な聖地として崇められていて、各種催事の多くがこの地で行われるそうです。ちなみに最澄の誕生日は8月18日だそうで、訪問した日も8月でしたので、こんな暑い時に、この場所で生まれたのかと、暑さの中で出産された最澄のお母さんが少し気の毒になりました。

伝説の井戸も見学しましたが、すでに水は枯れているそうです。井戸の周りには工事の作業に来ていたおじさん達が、暑さの中、のんびりと昼休みをとっていました。住職さんからは、近江西国三十三霊場の巡拝マップをいただきました。そこまでするかどうかは考えていませんが、地図を見ると琵琶湖の周りに霊場が点在していて、自転車で琵琶湖一周をする気になれば、お寺を回っても面白そうだと感じました。（完）

Shougenji Temple (Sakamoto, Shiga Prefecture)

I had not originally planned to visit this temple, but as I passed by it, I saw the words “the temple where Dengyo Daishi was born. I wondered if the Greatest Teacher was born here, and when I looked through the gate into the temple grounds, I saw only one very ordinary main hall. I entered the temple grounds to see if there was anything unusual there.

According to the leaflet I received from the temple, Saicho was not born in this temple, but a temple was later built in this place where Saicho was born, and it was named Shougenji Temple. Since I was there, I entered the main hall and paid my respects to the main deity, the eleven-faced Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva.

While the priest was writing a red seal, I asked him where Saicho took a bath, and he pointed to a well in the corner of the temple grounds and said that this is where he is said to have drawn water for his birth. However, it is said that this is the place where Saicho was born.

The temple is said to have been founded by Saicho, and is revered as a special holy place within Enryaku-ji Temple on Mt.Hiei. The date of Saicho’s birth is said to be August 18, and since it was August when I visited the temple, I felt a little sorry for his mother who gave birth in the heat of the day.

I also visited the legendary well, but I was told that the water had already dried up. Around the well, a group of men who had come to work on the construction were taking a leisurely lunch break in the heat. The chief priest gave us a map of the pilgrimage to the 33 sacred sites in Omi Saigoku. I have not thought about whether or not I would go that far, but looking at the map, the sacred sites are scattered around Lake Biwa, and I felt that it would be interesting to visit the temples if I were inclined to ride my bicycle around Lake Biwa. Temple Shougenji (Sakamoto, préfecture de Shiga)

Je n’avais pas prévu de visiter ce temple à l’origine, mais en passant devant, j’ai vu les mots ” le temple où Dengyo Daishi est né “. Je me suis demandé si le plus grand maître était né ici, et quand j’ai regardé à travers la porte dans l’enceinte du temple, je n’ai vu qu’une salle principale très ordinaire. Je suis entré dans l’enceinte du temple pour voir s’il y avait quelque chose d’inhabituel.

Selon le dépliant que j’ai reçu du temple, Saicho n’est pas né dans ce temple, mais un temple a été construit plus tard à l’endroit où Saicho est né, et il a été nommé le temple Shougenji. Comme j’étais là, je suis entré dans le hall principal et j’ai présenté mes respects à la déité principale, le bodhisattva Avalokitesvara à onze visages.

Pendant que le prêtre rédigeait un sceau rouge, je lui ai demandé où Saicho prenait son bain. Il m’a montré un puits dans un coin du temple et m’a dit que c’est là qu’il aurait puisé de l’eau pour sa naissance. Cependant, il est dit que c’est l’endroit où Saicho est né.

Le temple aurait été fondé par Saicho, et est vénéré comme un lieu saint spécial au sein du temple Enryaku-ji sur le Mont Hiei. La date de naissance de Saicho est censée être le 18 août, et comme c’était le mois d’août lorsque j’ai visité le temple, j’ai eu un peu de peine pour sa mère qui a accouché dans la chaleur de la journée.

J’ai également visité le puits légendaire, mais on m’a dit que l’eau était déjà tarie. Autour du puits, un groupe d’hommes venus travailler à la construction prenait tranquillement sa pause déjeuner sous la chaleur. Le prêtre en chef nous a donné une carte du pèlerinage vers les 33 sites sacrés d’Omi Saigoku. Je ne me suis pas demandé si j’irais aussi loin, mais en regardant la carte, les sites sacrés sont dispersés autour du lac Biwa, et j’ai pensé qu’il serait intéressant de visiter les temples si j’avais envie de faire le tour du lac Biwa à vélo.
