小説やドラマに出てくる一夜城
木下藤吉郎（後の豊臣秀吉）が、一夜にして築いたと言われる墨俣一夜城。歴史の教科書ではあまり取り上げられませんが、小説やテレビドラマでは、川上から組み立てやすく木材を加工して流して、短時間で組み立てた砦の話を聞いたことがないでしょうか。
現在は立派なコンクリート製天主
現在、建っているのはコンクリート製の立派なお城で、天守内は歴史資料館になっています。お城として集客するには、立派な方が見栄えがするのですが、一夜城という名前のイメージとは異なります。
それでも、一般的な「城郭天主」の体裁を整えたお城の建設が、地域住民の永年の夢であったそうなので、地元の皆さんにとっては、誇らしいお城になっているようです。天主内の展示室では、秀吉の立身出世を説明する展示、また、一夜城築城から稲葉山城攻めまでのわかりやすく解説が、なされています。
秀吉は大工だったのか？
天主に登り、長良川の流れを一望してみました。今は昔ですが、若き日の秀吉が、まさしく命懸けの日々を送っていた情景が、まぶたに浮かんでくる思いがしました。何かの本で読んだのですが、秀吉が若いころ何をしていたか不明な部分が多い中、大工の棟梁に弟子入りしていた記録があると聞きました。
今でいう、プレハブ工法での墨俣一夜城建築や、備中高松城の水攻め用の土木工事など、建設や土木の知識がなければ、このような戦術は取れなかったのではと思えます。ここでの活躍から出世街道を駆け上った秀吉ですが、その死後、ここからそれほど遠くない関が原での合戦後、豊臣家が急速に衰退することになりました。（完）

Sunomata Ichiya (Overnight) Castle
The Sumimata Overnight Castle is said to have been built by Tokichiro Kinoshita (later Hideyoshi Toyotomi) in a single night. Although not often mentioned in history textbooks, you may have heard stories in novels and TV dramas about the fortress, which was assembled in a short time by processing and pouring easily assembled lumber from upriver.
What stands today is a magnificent concrete castle, and the keep is a historical museum. To attract visitors as a castle, the more splendid it is, the better it looks, but it is different from the image of the name “Overnight Castle.”
Even so, the construction of a castle with the appearance of a typical “castle keep” was a longtime dream of the local residents, and it seems to have become a proud castle for the local people. In the exhibition room inside the castle, there are displays explaining Hideyoshi’s rise to power, as well as easy-to-understand explanations of the period from the construction of the overnight castle to the attack on Inabayama Castle.
Climbing up to the top of the castle, I took in the panoramic view of the Nagara River. It was a long time ago, but I could picture in my mind’s eye the scene of the young Hideyoshi risking his life in those days. I read in a book that there are many parts of Hideyoshi’s life that are unknown, but I heard that there is a record that he apprenticed himself to a master carpenter.
It seems to me that he could not have taken such tactics without knowledge of construction and civil engineering, such as the construction of Sunomata Overnight Castle using what we now call prefabricated construction methods and civil engineering work for the water invasion of Bitchu Takamatsu Castle. Although Hideyoshi rose quickly up the career ladder from his successes here, after his death and the battle at Sekigahara, not far from here, the Toyotomi family rapidly declined. (End)
Château Sunomata Ichiya (de nuit)
Le château de nuit de Sumimata aurait été construit par Tokichiro Kinoshita (plus tard Hideyoshi Toyotomi) en une seule nuit. Bien qu’il ne soit pas souvent mentionné dans les manuels d’histoire, vous avez peut-être entendu des histoires dans des romans et des séries télévisées au sujet de la forteresse, qui a été assemblée en peu de temps en transformant et en versant du bois facilement assemblable provenant de l’amont de la rivière.
Ce qui se dresse aujourd’hui est un magnifique château en béton, et le donjon est un musée historique. Pour attirer les visiteurs comme un château, plus il est splendide, plus il est beau, mais c’est différent de l’image du nom “Château de nuit”.
Malgré cela, la construction d’un château ayant l’apparence d’un “donjon de château” typique était un rêve de longue date des résidents locaux, et il semble être devenu un château dont les habitants sont fiers. Dans la salle d’exposition à l’intérieur du château, il y a des expositions expliquant l’ascension au pouvoir de Hideyoshi, ainsi que des explications faciles à comprendre sur la période allant de la construction du château de nuit à l’attaque du château d’Inabayama.
En montant au sommet du château, j’ai profité de la vue panoramique sur la rivière Nagara. C’était il y a longtemps, mais je pouvais imaginer dans mon esprit la scène du jeune Hideyoshi risquant sa vie à cette époque. J’ai lu dans un livre que de nombreuses parties de la vie d’Hideyoshi sont inconnues, mais j’ai entendu dire qu’il y avait une trace de son apprentissage auprès d’un maître charpentier.
Il me semble qu’il n’aurait pas pu prendre de telles mesures sans avoir des connaissances en matière de construction et de génie civil, comme la construction du château Sunomata Overnight en utilisant ce que nous appelons aujourd’hui des méthodes de construction préfabriquées et les travaux de génie civil pour l’invasion d’eau du château Bitchu Takamatsu. Bien que Hideyoshi ait rapidement gravi les échelons de sa carrière grâce à ses succès ici, après sa mort et la bataille de Sekigahara, non loin d’ici, la famille Toyotomi a rapidement décliné. (Fin)
