本能寺

敵は本能寺にあり！

「敵は本能寺にあり！」と日本人なら誰もが知る台詞ですが、京都に来て、その本能寺を訪れたという人は少ないのではないでしょうか。私もなかなか機会に恵まれませんでしたが、京都市役所に出張する必要ができたので、少し早く出かけて訪問してきました。

元の場所から移転した本能寺

現在の本能寺は、織田信長が明智光秀に打たれた場所にはありません。本能寺の変から10年後、豊臣秀吉の命で現在の場所に移転しています。なぞの多い本能寺の変ですが、織田信長が亡くなり、その嫡男である織田信忠も自害したため、その後、我々の知る歴史へとつながっていきます。信長が好きな方にとっては、非常に残念な出来事でした。

私も中学3年の時に見た大河ドラマ「徳川家康」で、役所広司さんが好演された織田信長に惹かれて以来、日本の武将といえば、最初にイメージするのが信長でした。場所こそ異なるとはいえ、本能寺にお参りできることは感慨ひとしおでした。

信長公廟にお参り

本堂でお参りをすませた後、信長公廟に向かいます。本能寺の変の後、信長の亡骸は見つかっていないので、ここに彼自身が眠っているわけではありません。一説によると、炎に包まれた本能寺ですが、激しく燃えたのは火薬を使ったからではないかというのを何かで読んだことがあります。信長が自らの首を光秀に渡さないよう、お堂ごと吹き飛ばしのも知れません。

ようやく供養塔の前で、お参りすることができました。この石塔の下には信長が使用していたという刀が眠っているそうです。街の中心部にあるお寺ですから、近くに来られた時に、一度訪問されたらいかがでしょうか。（完）

Honnoji Temple

The enemy is in Honnoji! is a line that all Japanese are familiar with, but I suspect that not many people have visited Honnôji Temple when they come to Kyoto. I have not had the opportunity to visit Honnoji, but when I had to make a business trip to Kyoto City Hall, I went a little early to pay a visit.

Today, Honnoji is not located on the spot where Nobunaga Oda was struck by Mitsuhide Akechi. Ten years after the Honnoji Incident, the temple was moved to its current location by order of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Although the Honnoji Incident has many mysteries, it is connected to the history we know since Oda Nobunaga died and his eldest son, Oda Nobutada, also committed suicide. For those who loved Nobunaga, it was a very unfortunate event.

Ever since I was attracted to Oda Nobunaga, who was played well by Koji Yakusho in the historical drama “Tokugawa Ieyasu,” which I saw in my third year of junior high school, Nobunaga has been the first image that comes to my mind when I think of Japanese military commanders. I was deeply moved to be able to visit Honnoji Temple, even though it is in a different location.

After praying in the main hall, I headed to the Mausoleum of Lord Nobunaga. Nobunaga himself is not buried here, as his corpse was never found after the Honnoji Incident. According to one theory, Honnoji was engulfed in flames, but I have read somewhere that the reason it burned so fiercely was because of the use of gunpowder. It may be that Nobunaga blew up the entire hall to prevent Mitsuhide from handing over his own head.

Finally, I was able to pay my respects in front of the memorial tower. It is said that the sword that Nobunaga used is under this stone pagoda. The temple is located in the center of the city, so why not visit it when you are in the neighborhood? (End)

Temple Honnoji

L’ennemi est à Honnoji ! est une phrase que tous les Japonais connaissent, mais je soupçonne que peu de gens ont visité le temple Honnôji lorsqu’ils viennent à Kyoto. Je n’ai pas eu l’occasion de visiter le Honnoji, mais lorsque j’ai dû faire un voyage d’affaires à l’hôtel de ville de Kyoto, j’y suis allé un peu plus tôt pour faire une visite.

Aujourd’hui, Honnoji n’est pas situé à l’endroit où Nobunaga Oda a été frappé par Mitsuhide Akechi. Dix ans après l’incident de Honnoji, le temple a été déplacé à son emplacement actuel sur ordre de Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Bien que l’incident d’Honnoji comporte de nombreux mystères, il est lié à l’histoire que nous connaissons depuis la mort d’Oda Nobunaga et le suicide de son fils aîné, Oda Nobutada. Pour ceux qui aimaient Nobunaga, c’était un événement très malheureux.

Depuis que j’ai été attiré par Oda Nobunaga, qui était bien interprété par Koji Yakusho dans le drame historique “Tokugawa Ieyasu”, que j’ai vu en troisième année de collège, Nobunaga est la première image qui me vient à l’esprit lorsque je pense aux commandants militaires japonais. J’ai été profondément ému de pouvoir visiter le temple Honnoji, même s’il se trouve dans un endroit différent.

Après avoir prié dans le hall principal, je me suis dirigé vers le mausolée du seigneur Nobunaga. Nobunaga lui-même n’est pas enterré ici, car son corps n’a jamais été retrouvé après l’incident d’Honnoji. Selon une théorie, Honnoji a été englouti par les flammes, mais j’ai lu quelque part que la raison pour laquelle il brûlait si ardemment était l’utilisation de la poudre à canon. Il se peut que Nobunaga ait fait exploser la salle entière pour empêcher Mitsuhide de remettre sa propre tête.

Enfin, j’ai pu présenter mes respects devant la tour commémorative. On dit que l’épée que Nobunaga a utilisée se trouve sous cette pagode de pierre. Le temple est situé au centre de la ville, alors pourquoi ne pas le visiter quand vous êtes dans le coin ? (Fin)
