今宮戎神社

商売人の神様

大阪で正月三が日の後、次に賑やかになる十日戎のお祭りがある今宮戎神社。商売人の神様ということで、駄菓子屋を商っていた祖父が、毎年、笹をもらってきたのを憶えています。ただ、父は商売をしていなかったので、小さい時に連れて来てもらった思い出はありません。

市街地にある神社なので、お祭りの日以外に来ると、参拝に来られる方も少なくゆっくりとお参りができます。そう言えば、結婚前に妻とお祭りの日に来たような気がします。その時の記憶と大分異なる光景です。

雲一つない青空の下

鳥居をくぐると、立派な狛犬が参道の両側から迎えてくれます。青光りしているように見えます。訪問当日は、雲一つなく、また大阪の夏独特の湿気による水蒸気の白い靄もなく、深い青空が広がる中、狛犬も、神社の建物も際立っていました。

今宮戎神社の歴史は古く、由緒によると、その創建は推古天皇の時代、聖徳太子が四天王寺を建立に当り、この地の西方の守護神として、市場鎮護の神として尊崇されたと伝わるそうです。

大阪の商業を護る神様

室町時代以降は、庶民による信仰が深まり、また大阪が商都として繁栄するのと期を一にして、今宮戎神社も大阪の商業を護る神様として篤く崇敬されるようになったとのことです。大阪にいると身近過ぎて、そこにあるのが当たり前のような神社にも、1000年以上、人々に崇敬されてきた歴史がありました。（完）

Imamiya Ebisu Shrine @ Osaka

Imamiya Ebisu Shrine is home to the next busiest festival in Osaka after New Year’s 3 days, Toka Ebisu. I remember my grandfather, who ran a candy store, getting a bamboo branch every year because he was the god of businessmen. However, my father was not in business, so I have no memories of him taking me there when I was small.

Since the shrine is located in an urban area, if you come here on a day other than a festival day, there are few visitors and you can take your time to visit the shrine. Come to think of it, I remember visiting the shrine with my wife on a festival day before we were married. It is a very different scene from what I remember from that time.

After passing through the torii gate, splendid guardian dogs welcome us from both sides of the approach. They look like they are glowing blue. On the day of our visit, there was not a cloud in the sky, nor was there the white haze of water vapor caused by the humidity characteristic of summer in Osaka, and both the guardian dogs and the shrine building stood out in the deep blue sky.

According to the history of Imamiya Ebisu Shrine, it was founded during the reign of Emperor Suiko, when Prince Shotoku built Shitennoji Temple, and was revered as the guardian god of the western part of this area and as the god of market protection.

After the Muromachi period (1333-1573), the common people began to deeply worship the shrine, and as Osaka prospered as a commercial city, Imamiya Ebisu Shrine also came to be revered as a god protecting Osaka’s commerce. The shrine, which is so familiar to us in Osaka that we take its presence for granted, has a history of more than 1,000 years of veneration by the people of Osaka. (End)

Sanctuaire Imamiya Ebisu @ Osaka

Le sanctuaire Imamiya Ebisu abrite le festival le plus fréquenté d’Osaka après les trois jours du Nouvel An, Toka Ebisu. Je me souviens que mon grand-père, qui tenait un magasin de bonbons, recevait chaque année une branche de bambou car il était le dieu des hommes d’affaires. Cependant, mon père n’était pas dans les affaires, donc je n’ai aucun souvenir de lui m’emmenant là quand j’étais petit.

Comme le sanctuaire est situé dans une zone urbaine, si vous venez ici un jour autre qu’un jour de festival, il y a peu de visiteurs et vous pouvez prendre votre temps pour visiter le sanctuaire. En y réfléchissant, je me souviens avoir visité le sanctuaire avec ma femme un jour de festival avant notre mariage. La scène est très différente de ce que je me rappelle de cette époque.

Après avoir franchi la porte du torii, de splendides chiens gardiens nous accueillent des deux côtés de l’approche. On dirait qu’ils brillent de mille feux. Le jour de notre visite, il n’y avait pas un nuage dans le ciel, ni la brume blanche de vapeur d’eau causée par l’humidité caractéristique de l’été à Osaka, et les chiens de garde et le bâtiment du sanctuaire se détachaient dans le bleu profond du ciel.

Selon l’histoire du sanctuaire Imamiya Ebisu, il a été fondé sous le règne de l’empereur Suiko, lorsque le prince Shotoku a construit le temple Shitennoji, et était vénéré comme le dieu gardien de la partie occidentale de cette région et comme le dieu de la protection du marché.

Après la période Muromachi (1333-1573), les gens du peuple ont commencé à vénérer profondément le sanctuaire, et à mesure qu’Osaka prospérait en tant que ville commerciale, le sanctuaire Imamiya Ebisu a également été vénéré comme un dieu protégeant le commerce d’Osaka. Le sanctuaire, qui nous est si familier à Osaka que nous prenons sa présence pour acquise, a une histoire de plus de 1 000 ans de vénération par les habitants d’Osaka. (Fin)
