法然院

哲学の道で発見したお寺

前に銀閣寺から歩いて京都市街に出てくるときに哲学の道を歩きました。そのとき出会った案内板に法然院という文字を見つけ、気になっていたのですが、五木寛之さんの著書「百寺巡礼」第九巻 京都Ⅱの最後で、法然院について書かれた文書を読んで訪れたくなりました。

竹垣に囲われた小道を登っていくと、左手に石碑が立っています。漢字ばかりですが、匂いのきつい野菜や、酒肉を食した者が入ることを禁止しているようです。最近お酒は飲みませんが、肉はほどほどに食べている身としては、誰もいないのでコッソリ入ることにしました。

禅寺のような白砂の造形物

山門をくぐると、目の前に白砂壇と呼ばれる砂で象った造形物が現れます。ここは禅寺？と思いながら、両脇の砂の山の間を進みます。おそらくこの砂で何かを表現しているのでしょう。ここを通ることで、身を清めていただけるのかもしれません。

　

境内の池や十万霊塔の横を通って奥までさらに奥まで進むと本堂があります。本堂には入れませんでしたが、のぞき窓から仏さまを拝みました。このお寺には著名人のお墓も多いそうです。五木さんの本では、作家の谷崎潤一郎の墓についても書かれていました。

本堂から引き返して帰ることにしました。境内を逆方向に歩くと、お寺の雰囲気が一変しました。太陽の光の方向で見た目の印象が変わったようです。お参りして、仏さまに御挨拶したのが良かったのかなと思いました。山門の屋根の苔の緑も、帰りの方がより鮮やかな色をしていました。（完）

Honenin Temple

I walked along the Philosopher’s Path on my way from Ginkakuji Temple to downtown Kyoto. I had been curious about the name Honen-in Temple since I came across it on a signboard, and I wanted to visit it after reading a document about Honen-in Temple at the end of Hiroyuki Itsuki’s book ” Hyakudera Pilgrimage” Vol. 9, Kyoto II.

As I climbed up the path surrounded by bamboo fences, a stone monument stood on my left. It is all in Chinese characters, but it seems to forbid those who have eaten vegetables with strong smells and alcoholic beverages and meat from entering the temple. As a person who does not drink alcohol these days but eats meat in moderation, I decided to sneak in as no one was around.

After passing through the gate, a sculpture made of sand, called a “white sand platform,” appears in front of me. Is this a Zen temple? I thought to myself, “Is this a Zen temple? Perhaps this sand is used to express something. Perhaps you can purify yourself by passing through this area.

Passing by the pond and the Jumanjirei Pagoda on the temple grounds, you will go further and further into the temple grounds to the main hall. I could not enter the main hall, but I saw the Buddha through a peephole. The temple is said to have many graves of famous people. In Mr. Itsuki’s book, he wrote about the grave of the writer Junichiro Tanizaki.

I decided to turn around from the main hall and return home. Walking in the opposite direction on the temple grounds, the atmosphere of the temple changed completely. The direction of the sunlight seemed to change the appearance. I thought it was good that I visited the temple and greeted the Buddha. The green moss on the roof of the temple gate was also more vivid on the way back. (End)

Temple Honenin

J’ai marché le long du sentier des philosophes en allant du temple Ginkakuji au centre-ville de Kyoto. J’étais curieux du nom du temple Honen-in depuis que je l’avais rencontré sur un panneau, et je voulais le visiter après avoir lu un document sur le temple Honen-in à la fin du livre de Hiroyuki Itsuki ” Hyakudera Pilgrimage ” Vol. 9, Kyoto II.

Alors que je montais le chemin entouré de clôtures en bambou, un monument en pierre se dressait sur ma gauche. Il est tout en caractères chinois, mais il semble interdire l’entrée du temple à ceux qui ont mangé des légumes à forte odeur, des boissons alcoolisées et de la viande. Comme je ne bois pas d’alcool ces jours-ci mais que je mange de la viande avec modération, j’ai décidé de me faufiler à l’intérieur car il n’y avait personne.

Après avoir franchi la porte, une sculpture faite de sable, appelée “plate-forme de sable blanc”, apparaît devant moi. Est-ce un temple zen ? Je me suis dit : “Est-ce un temple zen ? Peut-être que ce sable est utilisé pour exprimer quelque chose. Peut-être pouvez-vous vous purifier en passant par cette zone.

En passant par l’étang et la pagode Jumanjirei sur le terrain du temple, vous vous enfoncerez de plus en plus dans le terrain du temple jusqu’à la salle principale. Je n’ai pas pu entrer dans la salle principale, mais j’ai vu le Bouddha à travers un judas. On dit que le temple a de nombreuses tombes de personnes célèbres. Dans le livre de M. Itsuki, il parle de la tombe de l’écrivain Junichiro Tanizaki.

J’ai décidé de faire demi-tour depuis le hall principal et de rentrer chez moi. En marchant dans la direction opposée sur le terrain du temple, l’atmosphère du temple a complètement changé. La direction de la lumière du soleil semblait changer l’apparence. J’ai pensé que c’était une bonne chose de visiter le temple et de saluer le Bouddha. La mousse verte sur le toit de la porte du temple était également plus vive sur le chemin du retour. (Fin)
