よみがえりの聖地
発心門王子から中辺路を歩いてきましたので、たどり着いたのは熊野本宮大社の裏側です。そこにある鳥居をくぐって、ようやく境内に入りました。杉木立の中をしばらく歩いて、ようやく社殿が見えてきました。巡礼の旅もここが終着点です。半日の徒歩の旅でしたが、やはり一部でも歩いてくるのが良いと思います。巡礼者が夢見る“よみがえりの聖地”に到着しました。
黒い八咫烏のポスト
境内で最初に目についたのは、社務所前にある黒い八咫烏のポスト。郵便ポストの上に八咫烏が羽を広げて止まっています。足も3本付いています。これは実際に使われているポストで、郵便物を投函できるそうです。
いよいよ、ご社殿に入りたいと思いますが、生涯に29度も熊野行幸をされた後鳥羽上皇の歌碑がありました。「はるばると さかしき峰を わけ過ぎて 音無川を 今日みつるかな」。長く険しい旅を終えて、ようやくたどり着いた喜びが伝わってきます。さあ、参拝しましょう。
横一直線に並ぶ壮麗な社殿
第一殿から第四殿まで壮麗に横一直線に並んだ姿に感動します。社殿の前を行き来しながら、さまざまな角度から社殿を拝見しました。形も色も周りの景色にマッチして、本当に神々しい光景です。
お参りの順番を示した案内板に従って、第三殿の家津美御大神（けつみこのおおかみ）、すなわちスサノオノミコトからお参りしました。続いて、左の大きな神殿に祀られた、第二殿のイザナギノオオカミ、第三殿のイザナミノオオカミ、そして第四殿のアマテラスオオミカミの順に参拝しました。
八咫烏がモチーフのお土産
裏から入ったので、正面の鳥居へは158段の石段を下りて到着です。もし正面から入っていたら、この158段を結構きついなと思いました。神社ではお土産をあまり買わないのですが、熊野本宮大社では八咫烏の置物（左の２つ）を買いました。おみくじのようですが、中身は確認していません。（つづく）

Kumano Kodo (Ancient Road) (4) Kumano Hongu Grand Shrine (English)
The Holy Land of Resurrection
I walked along Nakahechi Road from Hosshinmon Oji, so I arrived at the back side of Kumano Hongu Grand Shrine. After passing through the torii gate there, I finally entered the shrine grounds. After walking through the cedar grove for a while, the shrine building finally came into view. This was the end of our pilgrimage. It was a half-day trip on foot, but I think it would be good to walk at least part of the way. I had arrived at the “holy land of resurrection” that pilgrims dream about.
Black Yatagarasu Mailbox
The first thing I noticed in the precincts was the black Yatagarasu mailbox in front of the shrine office. A Yatagarasu is perched on top of the mailbox with its wings spread. It also has three legs. This is an actual mailbox that can be used to send mail.
I finally entered the shrine, where I found a monument to Emperor Go-Toba, who visited Kumano 29 times in his life. The monument is dedicated to Emperor Go-Toba, who traveled to Kumano 29 times in his life. “After a long and arduous journey, we finally arrived at the Otonashi River.” You can feel the joy of finally arriving at the temple after a long and arduous journey. Magnificent shrine buildings lined up in a horizontal line
I was impressed by the magnificent horizontal line from the first to the fourth hall. As I walked back and forth in front of the shrine, I looked at the shrine from various angles. The shapes and colors matched the surrounding scenery, making it a truly divine sight.
Following the signs indicating the order of visitation, I started with the third shrine, Ketsumiko- no-Okami, or Susano-no-Mikoto. Next, I visited the large temple on the left, followed by Izanagi-no-Ookami (Hall 2), Izanami-no-Ookami (Hall 3), and Amaterasu-Omikami (Hall 4).
Souvenirs with Yatagarasu motifs
Since I entered from the back, I had to descend 158 stone steps to reach the Torii gate in front. If I had entered from the front, it would have been quite hard to climb those 158 steps. I don’t often buy souvenirs at shrines, but I bought some Yatagarasu figurines (the two on the left) at Kumano Hongu Grand Shrine. They look like fortunes, but I haven’t checked the contents. La Terre Sainte de la Résurrection
J’ai marché le long de la route Nakahechi depuis Hosshinmon Oji, et je suis arrivé à l’arrière du grand sanctuaire Kumano Hongu. Après avoir franchi la porte en forme de torii, je suis finalement entré dans l’enceinte du sanctuaire. Après avoir traversé le bosquet de cèdres pendant un moment, j’ai enfin pu apercevoir le bâtiment du sanctuaire. C’était la fin de notre pèlerinage. C’était un voyage d’une demi-journée à pied, mais je pense qu’il serait bon de marcher au moins une partie du chemin. J’étais arrivé à la “terre sainte de la résurrection” dont rêvent les pèlerins.
Boîte aux lettres Yatagarasu noire
La première chose que j’ai remarquée dans l’enceinte est la boîte aux lettres noire de Yatagarasu devant le bureau du sanctuaire. Un Yatagarasu est perché au sommet de la boîte aux lettres avec ses ailes déployées. Il a également trois jambes. Il s’agit d’une véritable boîte aux lettres qui peut être utilisée pour envoyer du courrier.
Je suis finalement entré dans le sanctuaire, où j’ai trouvé un monument dédié à l’empereur Go-Toba, qui a visité Kumano 29 fois dans sa vie. En suivant les panneaux indiquant l’ordre de visite, j’ai commencé par le troisième sanctuaire, Ketsumiko- no-Okami, ou Susano-no-Mikoto. Ensuite, j’ai visité le grand temple sur la gauche, puis Izanagi-no-Ookami (salle 2), Izanami-no-Ookami (salle 3), et Amaterasu-Omikami (salle 4).
Souvenirs avec des motifs de Yatagarasu
Comme je suis entré par l’arrière, j’ai dû descendre 158 marches en pierre pour atteindre la porte Torii à l’avant. Si j’étais entré par l’avant, il m’aurait été très difficile de monter ces 158 marches. Je n’achète pas souvent de souvenirs dans les sanctuaires, mais j’ai acheté des figurines de Yatagarasu (les deux à gauche) au Grand sanctuaire de Kumano Hongu. Elles ressemblent à des fortunes, mais je n’ai pas vérifié leur contenu. (A suivre)
