平等院鳳凰堂②（京都府宇治市）

平等院に入りました。絶対に見逃すことのない平等院鳳凰堂ですが、どこから見るかで様々な表情を見せてくれます。旧南門から入ると、鳳凰堂の後姿を最初に見ることになります。鳳凰が両翼を広げた姿として認識できるのは、後姿を見られる場所からだけかもしれません。

左翼にあたる部分に近づくと、建物の造りがよくわかります。鳳凰堂を建てた藤原頼通は、ここに住むことを考えていなかったので、建物は簡素な造りで、外側からは2階に見える部分に登っていく梯子もありません。

ここから池を4分の１ほど回って、鳳凰堂の正面に来ます。ここで写真タイムですが、鳳凰堂は幅広いので、全体をフレームに収めるのは難しいです。ここでは定番の説明をします。皆さんに10円玉を出してもらって、実物と比べてもらいます。少し前までは、10円玉の鳳凰堂のデザインと、鳳凰堂を並べて写真に撮って、SNSにアップする方が多かったようですが、最近は、あまり見なくなりました。

時間がかかるので、たいていは鳳凰堂の中に入って阿弥陀如来様にお会いすることはなく、宝物館を見て終了することが多いです。私は池の対岸から、カメラの倍率を上げて、阿弥陀様のお顔を見ることにしています。いつも、ありがたいお顔を拝顔しています。

どの季節に平等院へ来るのがいいのか？どの季節も趣がありますが、私が好きなのは紅葉の季節です。平等院に隣接する宇治川の堤防に沿って、紅葉した木々が並んでいます。ここをゆっくり歩くのが、秋のたのしみの１つです。（完）

Byodoin Phoenix Hall (2) (Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture)

We entered Byodoin. You can never miss the Byodoin Phoenix Hall, but depending on where you look at it from, you will see many different images. If you enter from the old south gate, you will be the first to see the back of the Phoenix Hall. It may be the only place from where you can see the back of the phoenix that you can recognize it as a figure with both wings spread out.

As you approach the left wing, you can clearly see the structure of the building. Since Yorimichi Fujiwara, the builder of the Phoenix Hall, did not plan to live here, the building is simple and there is no ladder to climb up to what looks like the second floor from the outside.

From here, we walked about a quarter of the way around the pond and came to the front of the Phoenix Hall. It’s photo time here, but the Phoenix Hall is so wide that it’s hard to get the whole thing in the frame. I’ll give the standard explanation here. I ask everyone to take out a 10-yen coin and compare it to the real thing. Not long ago, many people took pictures of the 10-yen coin and the Phoenix Hall side by side and uploaded them to social media, but lately, I don’t see many of them anymore.

It takes a long time to get there, so most of the visitors don’t go inside the Phoenix Hall to see the Amitabha Buddha, but end up visiting the Gallery of Treasures. I try to see the face of Amitabha from the other side of the pond by increasing the magnification of my camera. I am always grateful to see his face.

What season is the best time to visit Byodoin? Every season has its own charm, but my favorite is the season of autumn leaves. Along the bank of the Uji River adjacent to Byodoin, there are trees lined with red leaves. Walking slowly along the river is one of my favorite things to do in autumn.　(End)

Byodoin Phoenix Hall (2) (Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture)

Nous sommes entrés dans Byodoin. Vous ne pouvez pas manquer le hall du phénix de Byodoin, mais selon l’endroit d’où vous le regardez, vous verrez plusieurs images différentes. Si vous entrez par l’ancienne porte sud, vous serez le premier à voir l’arrière du Phoenix Hall. C’est peut-être le seul endroit d’où l’on peut voir le dos du phénix et où l’on peut le reconnaître comme une figure aux deux ailes déployées.

En vous approchant de l’aile gauche, vous pouvez clairement voir la structure du bâtiment. Comme Yorimichi Fujiwara, le constructeur du Phoenix Hall, ne prévoyait pas d’y vivre, le bâtiment est simple et il n’y a pas d’échelle pour monter à ce qui semble être le deuxième étage de l’extérieur.

De là, nous avons fait un quart du chemin autour de l’étang et sommes arrivés devant le Phoenix Hall. C’est l’heure de la photo ici, mais le Phoenix Hall est si large qu’il est difficile de le cadrer en entier. Je vais donner l’explication standard ici. Je demande à chacun de sortir une pièce de 10 yens et de la comparer à la vraie pièce. Il n’y a pas si longtemps, de nombreuses personnes ont pris des photos de la pièce de 10 yens et du Phoenix Hall côte à côte et les ont téléchargées sur les médias sociaux, mais dernièrement, je n’en vois plus beaucoup.

Comme il faut beaucoup de temps pour s’y rendre, la plupart des visiteurs ne pénètrent pas dans le hall du Phénix pour voir le Bouddha Amitabha, mais finissent par visiter la Galerie des trésors. J’essaie de voir le visage d’Amitabha depuis l’autre côté de l’étang en augmentant le grossissement de mon appareil photo. Je suis toujours reconnaissant de voir son visage.

Quelle est la meilleure saison pour visiter Byodoin ? Chaque saison a son propre charme, mais ma préférée est la saison des feuilles d’automne. Le long de la rive de la rivière Uji adjacente à Byodoin, il y a des arbres bordés de feuilles rouges. Marcher lentement le long de la rivière est l’une des choses que je préfère faire en automne.　(Fin)
