元々、比叡山延暦寺の高僧の隠居坊「里坊」の一つであった竹林院。約3,300㎡の庭園があり、国の名勝に指定されています。今回、この坂本を訪問した理由の１つは、この庭園を鑑賞することでした。暑い中を歩いてきたので、建物の中から、ゆっくりと庭園を眺めることで、体力回復を行いました。
受付の方に聞くと、建物の１階と２階から庭を眺めた後、実際に庭の中を回遊することを勧められました。まず、建物に入り、１階から庭園を鑑賞しました。ちょうど庭師のおじさんが作業しているところだったので、おじさんを写真に撮らないようにしばらく待っていました。私の他にも、２名の方が１階にいて、高そうな一眼レフカメラで、座卓に映り込んだ庭を撮影するリフレクション撮影にチャレンジしていました。
次に、２階に上がりました。ここからの眺めも素晴らしく、庭の景色を独り占めしながら、しばらく休憩していました。以前、座卓に映り込んだリフレクション撮影にトライしたことがありましたが、実際の景色よりも綺麗に写ってしまうので、あまり好きになれませんでした。写真より実物の景色を楽しみたいと思ってしまいます。
受付の方に勧められた通り、庭に降りてみました。少し歩くと、八王子山を借景として雄大な庭園の景色が目に入ってきました。雄大な景色が奥に広がっています。苔むした地面も庭の美しさを増しています。茶室と思われる建物も配置されています。秋になれば、紅葉も混じって素晴らしい景色が見られそうです。
庭を一回りすると、最後に珍しい灯籠に出会いました。鉄製の灯籠だそうです。苔の緑の中に、宇宙船のように浮いています。その姿がなんとも愛らしいです。長年の厳しい修行を終えて、比叡山を降りてきた高層たちは、この落ち着いた空間で、余生をどのようなことを考えて暮らしたのでしょうか。心穏やかに過ごされたと思いました。（完）

Former Chikurin-in Temple (Sakamoto, Shiga Prefecture)
Chikurin-in Temple was originally one of the “satobo,” or retirement chambers, of the high priests of Enryaku-ji Temple on Mount Hiei. It has a garden of about 3,300 m2 and is designated as a national place of scenic beauty. One of the reasons for this visit to Sakamoto was to appreciate this garden. Since I had walked in the hot weather, I recovered my strength by taking my time to view the garden from inside the building.
The receptionist recommended that I view the garden from the first and second floors of the building and then actually walk around the garden. First, i entered the building and admired the garden from the first floor. The gardener was just working, so I waited for a while so as not to take a picture of him. Besides me, there were two other people on the first floor who were trying to take reflection shots of the garden reflected in the seating area with an expensive-looking SLR camera.
Next, I went up to the second floor. The view from there was also wonderful, and I rested for a while, having the garden view all to myself. I had tried taking a reflection shot on the seating area before, but I didn’t like it very much because it turned out nicer than the actual view. It makes me want to enjoy the actual view more than the photo.
I went down to the garden as the receptionist recommended. After a short walk, I saw a magnificent view of the garden with Mt. Hachioji as a borrowed landscape. The magnificent view extends to the back of the garden. The moss-covered ground also adds to the beauty of the garden. A building that appears to be a tea ceremony room is also located here. In the fall, I can expect to see a wonderful view mixed with autumn leaves.
As I rounded the garden, I came across an unusual lantern at the end. It is said to be an iron lantern. It floats like a spaceship in the green moss. Its appearance is quite lovely. I wonder what the high priests who came down from Mt. Hiei after years of severe ascetic training must have thought about during the rest of their lives in this serene space. I thought they spent their time peacefully. (End)

Le temple Chikurin-in était à l’origine l’un des “satobo”, ou chambres de retraite, des grands prêtres du temple Enryaku-ji sur le mont Hiei. Il possède un jardin d’environ 3 300 m2 et est désigné comme un lieu national de beauté scénique. L’une des raisons de cette visite à Sakamoto était d’apprécier ce jardin. Comme j’avais marché sous la chaleur, j’ai récupéré mes forces en prenant le temps d’admirer le jardin depuis l’intérieur du bâtiment.
Le réceptionniste m’a recommandé de voir le jardin depuis le premier et le deuxième étage du bâtiment, puis de faire le tour du jardin. Je suis d’abord entré dans le bâtiment et j’ai admiré le jardin depuis le premier étage. Le jardinier était en train de travailler, j’ai donc attendu un moment pour ne pas prendre de photo de lui. À part moi, il y avait deux autres personnes au premier étage qui essayaient de prendre des photos du jardin se reflétant dans le coin salon avec un appareil photo reflex à l’allure onéreuse.
Ensuite, je suis monté au deuxième étage. La vue de là était également magnifique, et je me suis reposé un moment, ayant la vue du jardin pour moi tout seul. J’avais déjà essayé de prendre une photo avec un reflet sur les sièges, mais je n’ai pas beaucoup aimé, car le résultat était plus beau que la vue réelle. Cela me donne envie de profiter de la vue réelle plus que de la photo.
Je suis descendu dans le jardin comme l’avait recommandé le réceptionniste. Après une courte marche, j’ai vu une vue magnifique du jardin avec le mont Hachioji comme paysage d’emprunt. La vue magnifique s’étend jusqu’à l’arrière du jardin. Le sol recouvert de mousse ajoute également à la beauté du jardin. Un bâtiment qui semble être une salle de cérémonie du thé se trouve également ici. En automne, je peux m’attendre à voir une vue magnifique mêlée aux feuilles d’automne.
En faisant le tour du jardin, je suis tombé sur une lanterne inhabituelle au bout. On dit qu’il s’agit d’une lanterne en fer. Elle flotte comme un vaisseau spatial dans la mousse verte. Son apparence est tout à fait charmante. Je me demande ce que les grands prêtres qui descendaient du mont Hiei après des années de sévère entraînement ascétique devaient penser pendant le reste de leur vie dans cet espace serein. Je pense qu’ils ont passé leur temps paisiblement. (Fin)
