平城宮 朱雀門

平城宮のシンボル

平城宮跡のシンボルである復元の朱雀門が竣工したのは1998年です。当時のニュースを今も覚えています。テレビで見て是非一度見てみたいと思って、大阪から見に来たことがありました。今もそうですが、近鉄奈良駅に向かう電車の車窓から朱雀門を見ると、古の平城京の姿が頭の中に浮かんできます。

それから20年以上たち、仕事で海外の方を奈良に御案内することになりましたが、年に何度か平城宮跡に来ます。特に国土交通省関連で研修に来られる方々に対しては、研修受入機関からの要望もあり、こちらを訪問します。

朱雀は南の方向を司る

朱雀とは、古代中国の四神相応で、南の方向を司ります。ここに建つ朱雀門も平城宮の南に建つ門で、その前には朱雀大路が真っすぐに南の羅城門まで3.7㎞も延びていました。この朱雀大路も75ｍもあります。ご自身で、駐車場から資料館まで歩いて朱雀大路を横切ってみると、その幅の広さを体感できます。外国の使節が通る朱雀大路を、これほど大きくして作ったのは、平城京の人々の国づくりにかけるエネルギーの現れでしょう。

薬師寺東塔を参考にした

復元に際し、当時の建物の記録があったわけではありません。当時の建築物の構造を記した絵や文書がなかったため、奈良時代前期の薬師寺東塔を参考にしたそうです。また、東大寺の転害門を参考にして、各部材の大きさを参考にしました。

奈良時代は外国の使節が往来しただけではなく、正月には天皇が朱雀門まで出向き、新年のお祝いをすることもあったそうです。現在も幅広い朱雀大路で様々なイベントを行って、往時の賑わいも取り戻してきています。平城宮では大極殿が建ち、他の建物の復元も進んでいます。私が生きている間に、どこまで復元してくれるのか楽しみです。（完）

Suzakumon Gate, Heijo Palace

It was 1998 when the construction of the restored Vermilion Bird Gate, the symbol of the Heijo-kyu Palace site, was completed. I still remember the news at that time. I had come from Osaka to see it because I saw it on TV and really wanted to see it. Even now, when I see the Suzakumon from the window of the train heading for Kintetsu Nara Station, the image of the ancient Heijo-kyo Palace comes to my mind.

More than 20 years later, I have been taking foreign visitors to Nara on business, and they visit the Heijo-kyu Palace Site several times a year. Especially for those who come to Nara for training related to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, we visit this site at the request of the host institution.

Suzaku is an ancient Chinese term for one of the four gods, and it is the direction of the south. The Suzaku Gate here was also built to the south of Heijo-kyu Palace, and in front of it, Suzaku Avenue extended 3.7 km straight to Rajomon Gate in the south. This Suzakuoji is also 75 meters wide. If you walk across the Suzakuoji Avenue from the parking lot to the museum yourself, you can experience its width. The fact that the Suzakuoji Avenue, through which foreign envoys pass, was made so wide must be a reflection of the energy of the people of Heijo-kyu in their efforts to build their nation.

In restoring the building, there were no records of the buildings of the time. Since there were no pictures or documents describing the structure of the buildings at that time, the east pagoda of Yakushiji Temple from the early Nara period was used as a reference. Also, the size of each component was taken as a reference from the Tegaimon Gate of Todaiji Temple.

In the Nara Period, not only did foreign envoys come and go, but the emperor would also go to the Suzaku Gate on New Year’s Day to celebrate the New Year. Even today, various events are held on the broad Suzaku-oji Avenue, and the bustle of the past has been restored. At Heijo-kyu Palace, the Daigoku-den Hall has been built and restoration of other buildings is underway. I look forward to seeing how far they will go in restoring it during my lifetime. (End)

Porte Suzakumon, Palais Heijo

C’est en 1998 que la construction de la porte restaurée de l’Oiseau de vermeil, symbole du site du palais Heijo-kyu, a été achevée. Je me souviens encore des nouvelles de l’époque. J’étais venu d’Osaka pour la voir parce que je l’avais vue à la télévision et que je voulais vraiment la voir. Même aujourd’hui, lorsque je vois le Suzakumon par la fenêtre du train en direction de la gare Kintetsu de Nara, l’image de l’ancien palais Heijo-kyo me vient à l’esprit.

Plus de 20 ans plus tard, j’emmène des visiteurs étrangers à Nara pour affaires, et ils visitent le site du palais Heijo-kyo plusieurs fois par an. En particulier pour ceux qui viennent à Nara pour une formation liée au ministère du territoire, des infrastructures, des transports et du tourisme, nous visitons ce site à la demande de l’institution hôte.

Suzaku est un ancien terme chinois désignant l’un des quatre dieux, et c’est la direction du sud. La porte Suzaku a été construite au sud du palais Heijo-kyu, et devant elle, l’avenue Suzaku s’étendait sur 3,7 km jusqu’à la porte Rajomon au sud. Ce Suzakuoji fait également 75 mètres de large. Si vous traversez vous-même l’avenue Suzakuoji depuis le parking jusqu’au musée, vous pourrez vous rendre compte de sa largeur. Le fait que l’avenue Suzakuoji, par laquelle passent les envoyés étrangers, ait été rendue aussi large doit refléter l’énergie des habitants de Heijo-kyu dans leurs efforts pour construire leur nation.

Lors de la restauration du bâtiment, il n’existait aucun document sur les bâtiments de l’époque. Comme il n’y avait pas de photos ou de documents décrivant la structure des bâtiments de l’époque, la pagode est du temple Yakushiji du début de la période Nara a été utilisée comme référence. De même, la taille de chaque élément a été prise comme référence à partir de la porte Tegaimon du temple Todaiji.

À l’époque de Nara, non seulement les envoyés étrangers allaient et venaient, mais l’empereur se rendait également à la porte Suzaku le jour du Nouvel An pour célébrer la nouvelle année. Aujourd’hui encore, diverses manifestations sont organisées sur la large avenue Suzaku-oji, et l’agitation du passé a été restaurée. Au palais Heijo-kyu, la salle Daigoku-den a été construite et la restauration d’autres bâtiments est en cours. Je suis impatient de voir jusqu’où ils iront dans la restauration de mon vivant. (Fin)
